IRONI'NG BOARD, PAD, AND COVER.
, Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec., I2, 1916.
Application filed July 29, 1916. Sleral No. 112,040.
To @ZZ whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, RAE POLL, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ironing Boards, Pads, and Covers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to ironing boards, tables, and the like, and the main object thereof is to provide a pad and cover for said board or table, either as s parate articles of manufacture, or as a unit, adapted to ready connection with the board or table Without the necessity for sewing, lacing, pinning, or nailing the pad and cover to the board or table, special holding means being provided on the board or table for said pad and cover.
My invention is fully described in the following speciication, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which like characters refer to like parts in each of the views, and in Which:-
Figure 1 is a bottom plan view of an ironing board provided with my pad and cover and with the holding means therefor; Fig. 2 is an enlarged section taken on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional view of the board showing one type of holding means which I employ; and Fig. 4; is a similar view showing another type of holding means which I employ.
Referring to the drawings, 5 represents an ironing board of any desired form provided with a plurality o-f spaced devices 6 adjacent one edge thereof and each of which is provided with a capped or hook shaped head 7 the hooks of which are directed toward the opposite edge of the board, the said devices being illustrated in the form of screws. Adjacent the opposite edge of the board, and at the ends thereof, are a plurality of spaced holding devices shown screws 8 having heads 9 provided, each, with a transverse hole 10 therethrough for the passage of a pin or equivalent 11, safetyins being illustrated.
At 12 is shown a pad .provided with eyelets 13 adapted to be slipped over the respective holding devices and at 14 is shown a cover likewise provided with eyelets 15 and, instead of having separate eyelets for the pad and cover, I may join the latter by a single eyelet in the position of each of the holding means, and I prefer to provide a series of eyelets in the position of each of the last described holding devices whereby any slackness in the pad or cover may be taken up, as shown at the top and ends of Fig. 1.
In practice, the eyelets along one edge of the pad and cover are slipped over the respective hook shaped devices 6 and said pad and cover then turned over the upper surface of the boa-rd and again thereunder, where the respective eyelets are slipped over the heads 9 at the corresponding edge of the board, the ends of the pad and cover being then turned inwardly beneath the board and engaged with the respective heads 9, after which the safetynpins 11 may be installed, or the equivalent thereof, and the pad and cover are rmly secured to the board against any possibility of creeping, though in a readily removable manner.
In marketing the invention, I may sell the board or table, particularly card-tables, with the holding devices in place as one article of manufacture, the pad with the eyelets therein as another article of manufacture, the cover with the eyelets therein as another article of manufacture, or the pad and cover combined with the eyelets therein as another article of manufacture, as a unitary structure.
It will be understood that the pads and covers will be fitted to the particular board or table for which they are intended, and they may be readily removed for cleansing or for repair or substitution.
While I have shown a practical embodiment of my invention, I do not desire to be limited to the specific details shown and described, as changes may be made thereover which do not depart from the spirit of the invention, and which will come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A board, a pad thereon, a cover thereover, a plurality of hook shaped holding.
means for said pad and cover at one side of said board, and a plurality of holding deyices at the opposite side of said board hav- Ing, each, a head provided with a transverse bore therethrough, and a pin held in each of said bores, said pad land cover having eyethe under side thereof, the screws along one lets passed over the respective holding edg'e having hook shaped heads, and the means screws along the `opposite edge having traus- 10 2. As an article of manufacture, adapted versely bored heads, and a pin held in each 5 for the reception of apadrand cover, a board bore.
having a plurality of headed screws held in spaced relationship along opposite edges of RAE POLL.
