JEREMIAH A. KING, OF SWIFTON, ARKANSAS, ASSIGNOR 0F ONE-THIRD TO ELBER'I '1. CASI-IION, OF SWIIETON, ARKANSAS.
SPOKE-CLIP.
Application filed August 24, 1915.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JEREMIAH A. KING, a citizen of the United States, residing at Swifton, in the county of Jackson and State of Arkansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spoke-Clips, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in spoke clips, one object of the invention being the provision of a means for attaching the broken end of a spoke to the felly, in such a manner as to reinforce such end, and also the adjacent portion of the felly.
Another object of the present invention is the provision of a spoke clip to be directly applied to the spoke and felly by a novice so that any broken spoke may be quickly and easily repaired and properly attached to the felly.
With the foregoing and other objects in view and which will be evident as the description proceeds, the present invention resides in the features hereinafter set forth and particularly claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of the clip as applied to a spoke and felly only portions of the latter of which are shown. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of one member of the clip. Fig. 3 is a cross section through the spoke and the two members of the clip as shown in Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates the spoke and 2 the felly, such spoke being represented as one broken away from the folly and attached in place by means of the clip.
The clip consists of two similar members 1 each one of which is provided with the spoke encircling portion 5 perforated as at 6 for the reception of a riveting screw 7 and with the two shouldered portions 8 which rest upon the inner face of the felly,

while the two flat terminals 9 rest upon the outer face of the folly. These plates are perforated as at 10 for the reception of the riveting screw 11.
Thus it will be seen that the members are made identical and that it is impossible to nnproperly position them upon the spoke and felly, the riveting screws being passed through the respective spoke and felly in such a manner as to clamp the members in position so as to hold the spoke permanently to the felly and at the same time reinforce both the spoke and the felly.
Each member 1 is provided with a resilient encircling member or tongue 12 having the elongated slot 18 so that the riveting screw 7 may properly pass therethrough and as the members 4 are drawn tightly upon the spoke the tongues 12 will slide upon the inner face of the portions 5 and thus completely surround the spoke and hold the same from splitting.
lVith this form of clip, it is evident that even should the end of the spoke be splintered due to the breaking from the felly, the same can be readily reinforced by the encircling bands composed of the portions 5 and the resilient tongues 12.
What is claimed is A spoke clip, comprising a pair of curved members having felly contacting extensions, curved slotted resilient tongues on the men1- bers, the tongue on one member being overlapped by the member adjacent thereto, when both of said members are in position for embracing the spoke, and fasteners adjustably connecting the members and loosely passed through the slots in the tongues.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
JEREMIAH A. KING.
