TEXTILE-FABIC STRIP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. T2, INLET.
Application filed June 7, 1916. Serial No. 102,327.
at Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and use ful Improvements in Textile-Fabric Strips, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification.
The present invention, while susceptible of much wider application, has for its object, to provide a simple, cheap and effective substitute for non-elastic webbing such as is used in the manufacture of parts of garters, suspenders and like articles.
The invention consists in forming a fabric strip of textile material, the strip being folded longitudinally and having inwardly turned edges that are united together by cernent.
Figure 1 is a plan view showing a strip of textile fabric, the edges of which have been folded inward toward the center upon the same side of the material and to these folded edges a line of cement has been applied. Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing the strip after it has been folded longitudinally, the folded edges being separated for better illustration. Fig. 3 is a view of a portion of a garter having my improvedfabric strip embodied therein. Fig. 4 is a View in cross section, upon an enlarged scale on line 4-4 of Fig. 3.
The strip A of suitable textile fabric such as cotton or the like, is cut from a broader strip and the raw edges a of the strip A are folded inward toward the center of the strip upon the same face thereof.- After the edges a have thus been folded inward, a line of cement, preferably a suitable water-proof cement b, is applied, preferably to both of the foldededges a, although the application of the cement to one edge may be sufiicient.
After the cement b has thus been applied to the folded edges a the strip A is folded centrally as'shown in Figs. 2 and 4, so as to bring the edges a together and the folded edges of the strip are pressed firmly together so as to insure the cement securely uniting the edges. The folding of the strip and the application of the cement to its edges maybe effected in any suitable manner, care being taken to ihsure the secure joining of the folded edges (1 together. When the strip A has had its edges a folded and united by cement b, the exposed faces of the strip will appear exactly alike and the edges will appear substantially alike and have a smooth and finishedv appearance.
In Fig. 3 of the drawing I have shown one. end of the garter having the usual fasteners C connected to the body I) of the garter by means of my improved strip A.- My improved strip afiords a cheap and eii'ective substitute for non-elastic webbing and its advantages would be readilyunderstood by those familiar with this class of articles.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is As a new article of manufacture, a substitute for non-elastic webbing consisting of a strip of textile fabric folded lengthwise and of two-ply thickness throughout the greater portion of its width, said strip having inwardly folded edges in alinement and cemented together.
