Description

0. EISENKRAMER.
SNAP FASTENER BINDING.
APPLICATION FILED DEC. 30. 1914.
1 146,696.. Patented July 13, 1915.
WITNESSES (AWE/V70)? Oscar Ersenkramer A TTOH/VEYS a to.
sNAP-FAsritNEn BINDING.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OSCAR EIsENKRAMER, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Im proved Snap-Fastener Binding, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact de scription.
My invention has reference to a closing device to be used mainly with undergarments, and serves simultaneously as a binder for the edges of the undergarment where the closing means are to be provided.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple, efficient, 'and inexpensive closing device which is in the form of a tape, carrying the closing means, ready to be attached to the edges of an undergarment where the closing means are to be provided and where- .by all the closing means are secured atonce.
The tape carrying the closing means, further, serves as a binder for the closing edges of the garment.
With the above and other objects in view, the nature of which will more fully appear I as the description proceeds, the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as herein fully described, illustrated and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of the application, similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views, and Figure 1 is a perspective view of afragment of a garment provided with an embodiment of my invention; Fig. 2 is a section on line 22, Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is an elevation on a strip carrying the studs;
Fig. i is an elevation of a strip carrying the sockets; Fig. 5 is a cross section through the strip and shown in Fig. 3; Fig. 6 is a section through the strip shown in Fig. 4.
Referring to the drawings, the tape carrying the fasteners consists of an elongated member 9 of any suitable material, the longitudinal edges 10 of which member are folded toward each other so thata gap is left between the facing edges of the folded portions 11 of the elongated member. Passing through one of the folded portions 11 and through the contacting-therewith part of the elongated member 9 are snap-fastener parts 12 or 13, according to whether the elongated member 9 carries the sockets or r the studs. The fastener parts maintain the folded portions 11 against the part of the Specification of Letters Patent.

elongated member 9 contacting therewith by the same is folded in its middle so as-to bring the folded portions 11 against each other. The so-folded elongated member 9 maybe of any length, from which strips o desired length may be out off and secured to unfinished garment edges which are to be provided with closing means.
The unfinished edge 15 of the garment is fitted between the folded strip as shown in Figs. 5 and 6, and the same can then be stitched to the garment along the fold 16 of the strip and also along the other fold formed by the portions 11, as shown at 17. It is self-evident that the cooperating edges of the garment are provided with strips, one carrying the male fasteners and the other the female part thereof. A strip such as described will not only make a binder for the edge of the garment, but simultaneously provide therefor closing means, which can be quickly detached from one another, due to the fact that the closing means are of the snap-fastener type. It will befurther remarkedthatonly the cooperating parts of the -.snap-f astener will lie outside of the binding strips 9; and when the garment is garments already provided with bindings,
the strips shown in Figs. 5 and 6 can be previously stitched at their sides, that is, at the.
fold 16 and at the opening formed by the folded-in edges 11.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings the advantage of the construction of my. snap-fastener binding will be readily understood by those skilled in the art to which the invention pertains; and I desire to have it understood that the snap-fastener binding shown is merely illustrative and that such changes may be made as are within the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to obtain by Letters Patent:
In a snap-fastener binding, a strip of fabric folded longitudinally in the middle thereof and having its longitudinal edges In testimony whereof I have signed my of the folded strip is substantially double, two subscribing Witnesses.
folded in so that the major part of each side name to thisspecification in the presence of 1D 7 and snap fasteners attached to said strip so that one part thereof passes through the OSCAR EISENKRAMER' doubled side of the folded strip and has a i Witnesses:
part thereof located between the folded B. JOFFE, strip. a PHILIP D. ROLLHAUS.
