CLINT P. CAMERON, 0F MOUNT VERNON, INDIANA.
LOCK.
Application filed October 13, 1915.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLINT P. CAMERON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mount Vernon, in. the county of Posey, State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Locks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in looks and is directed more particularly to securing devices for doors or similar hinged closures.
In carrying out the invention it is my purpose to provide a lock of the above character, embodying parts of novel construction and arrangement by which a door may be automatically looked upon movement to closed position.
With the above and other objects of simi lar nature in view the invention resides in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts, set forth in and falling within the scope of the appended claim.
In the drawing: Figure 1 is a fragmentary view of a door and casing with the invention associated therewith, parts being broken away. Fig. 2 is an enlarged side elevation of the lock with the cover removed and parts in inoperative position. Fig. 3 is a view similar to- Fig. 2 with the parts in position prior to closing and looking the door, and Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken on the line 4 -4 of Fig. 1.
Referring now more particularly to the drawing, there is illustrated in conventional form a door A, and door frame B, the door being hinged to the latter as indicated at C.
The lock is designated generally at 10 and comprises a casing including a body 11 and removable cover 12, said casing being inset or mortised in the door in any suitable manner. Within the casing is pro vided a main lock bolt 13 and an auxiliary lock bolt 14 said bolts having corresponding ends slidably engaged in slots 15 formed in the body of the casing and being each provided with stop lugs 16 engageable with the casing to limit movement of the bolts outwardly of the latter,
Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 55,720.
The main bolt 13 is further provided on its under face with suitable projections 17, 18 and 19 resulting in notches 20, 21 the purpose of which will subsequently appear. Fulcrumed as at 22 in the body of the casing and operatively connecting the bolts 13 and 14 is a lever 23, it being engaged at one end in a notch 24 formed in the auxiliary bolt and interchangeably received in the notches 20, 21 formed in the main lock bolt. A spring 25 is interposed between the bolt 13 and an adjacent face of the casing to yieldably retain the bolt in engagement with the lever. The body 10 is further provided with an opening 26 for the reception of a key 27 by which to retract the bolt 13 and subsequently move the lever 23 into the notch 20, such movement of the lever serving to extend the bolt 14 as best illustrated in Fig. 3.
Arranged within the door frame B is a keeper 28, provided with a socket 29 to receive the look bolt 13, and further provided with an extension 30 for engaging and moving the bolt 14 to retracted position.
In the operation of the lock, the key is inserted within the opening 26 and rotated to engage the lug 19 and thereby retract the bolt 13, after which the door may be opened as is apparent by reference to Fig. 2. With the lever 23 disposed in the notch 21, continued movement of the key will serve to swing same into the notch 20, the bolt 14 being in this manner set to engage the keeper extension 30 when the door is closed. To look the door same is swung to closed position at which time the beveled face 31 of the bolt 14 will cam upon the extension 30 to move the bolt inwardly of the casing, the lever 23 engaging the lug 19 to slide the bolt 12 into the socket 29. It is of course obvious that should the key be given a complete rotation and withdrawn before opening the door, the bolt 14 will be moved within the socket 32 behind the extension 30 and thereby prevent opening of the door, it being in this manner rendered difficult for a person unacquainted with the mechanism to operate the look.
What is claimed is A look comprising a casing, main and auxiliary lock bolts mounted in the casing,
spaced projections on the main bolt proto extend and retract the main and auxiliary bolts. 1
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature, in the presence of two Witnesses.
