Patented Nov- 7,1311.
UNITED STATES PATENT FIoE.
GEORGE W. PEIROE, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN BRACKETS AND TOWEL-RACKS COMBINED.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 120,665, dated November 7, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. Pnmcn, of Boston, in the county of Sufi'olk and Commonwealth of Massachusetts, have made an invention of a new and useful Combination of Bracket and Towel-Rack; and do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, due reference being had to the accompanying drawing making part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 is a perspective representation, and Fig. 2 an under-side view of my invention.
My present invention is intended to combine usefulness and ornament, and in doing this to secure, also, economy in space in an apartment; and to this end I combine with a bracket or other ornamental appurtenance of a dwelling-house a rack, upon which towels or other articles may be hung to dry or suffered to remain, as occasion requires, one advantage gained by my invention being in the saving of a portion of the cost of purchasing two articles-that is, a bracket for ornament and a towel-stand for use. To this end, and to carry out my invention, I dispose below the shelf of the bracket one or more swinging arms or cranes, which, when not in use, may be turned inward toward the back of the bracket, and thus removed from accident, and also present a more pleasing appearance and economize space.
The drawing exhibits at A the back or base of an ornamental wallbracket, while B represents the shelf of the same, the triangular brace below such shelf being shown at O. In carrying my present improvements into practice I pivot to the under side of the shelf B one end of one or more arms or bars, a a, &c., these bars constituting small cranes, upon which various articles may be hung, and being so applied as to be susceptible of being turned into a cluster or otherwise contracted when not in use, in orderthat they shall not project into the apartmentand occupy too much of its space. When wanted for use one or more of the arms may be turned upon its pivot and projected radially into the apartment, in which position it is ready "to receive such article of the toilet or nursery as may be deposited uponit.
I have endeavored in this invention to divest a towel-rack of much of the appearance which renders its presence in an apartment objectionable, as well as to economize expense and save space. By pivoting a few simple arms to a wallbracket I accomplish mypurpose in a simple and inexpensive manner and retain at the same time the ornamental appearance which the bracket presents.
I claim- As a new article of manufacture, awall-bracket provided with arms pivoted thereto, as shown and described, to form a rack for towels and other articles.
