Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, THOMAS C. SHAW, a citizen of the United States, residing at Atlanta, in the county of Fulton and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bulletin-Boards, of which the following is a specification.

The present invention relates to bulletinboards and similar devices, and the primary object is to provide an apparatus of this character, by means of which papers and other articles may be prominently displayed, and at the same time protected against injury and displacement.

A further and important object is to pro vide a structure that will receive and properly hold cards, sheets and the like of various sizes.

-Two embodiments of the invention are illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a front elevation of one form of construction, and Fig. 2 is an end view of the same. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view on an enlarged scale, with intermediate portions broken away. Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of one of the carrier-supporting standards. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of one of the carriers and the paper-clamping clip. Fig. 6 is front elevation of a modified form of construction. Fig. 7 is an end elevation of the same, and Fig. 8 is a vertical sectional view on an enlarged scale, with portions unnecessary to an understanding of the same, broken away.

Similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawings.

Referring first to the embodiment disclosed in Figs. 1-5 inclusive, a supporting structure is employed, comprising a frame which includes spaced legs 9 having suitable feet 10 and connected by a tie rod 11. This frame supports a case, designated generally by the reference numeral 12, the said case comprising end walls, a top wall 14, a bottom 15, a transparent front wall 16, preferably of glass, and a rear wall 17 that is in the form of a door hinged as shown at 18 to open outwardly. Within the case are located a plurality of spaced vertical standards 19 having offset terminals 20 secured as shown in Fig. 3 to the top. 14 and bottom 15. These standards are provided with longitudinal slots 21. Slidably mounted on the standards are carriers 22 having bolts 23' that pass through the slots, and not only constitute guiding means for the carriers, but also clamping means, thumb nuts 24 being provided on their rear sides, said nuts being thus accessible through. the rear of the case when the door is opened. The carriers are provided with forwardly extending flanges 25, and pivoted to and between the lower portions thereof are yielding clips 26 having offset free terminals 27 that are arranged to bear against the rear face of the glass wall 16. Springs 28'may, if desired, be mounted on the carriers and bear against the clips 26, though these springs are not entirely necessary, as experience has demonstrated that the clips will perform their functions without them. The manner of using the device, it is believed, will be obvious by reference to Figs. 1 and 3. The

matter to be displayed, preferably in the form of sheets or papers, is introduced through the rear of the case and placed against the rear face of the transparent wall 16. The carriers and clips are then adjusted, so that they will engage the rear faces of'the sheets and thus hold them smoothly and securely against said transparent wall. Two such sheets are illustrated and designated A. It will thus be seen that these articles can be prominently displayed and held irrespective of their size or shape. Upon the top of the case may-be placed a display board 29 on which can be printed a sign of suitable character, indicating the character of the bulletins displayed. This board, as shown, projects beyond the opposite edges of the case and isprovided with angle brackets 30, from which may be suspended chains 31. These chains may be employed for supporting books 32 for reference purposes and the like. The rear door 17 may also be locked if desired, and for this purpose a padlock 33 is employed shown in Fig. 2, which may be suitably engaged with the door and with a keeper 34 mounted on the edge ofrthe case.

The embodiment disclosed in Figs. 6, 7

and 8 is slightly different. In this form of Y construction, the support consists of an easel composed of legs 35 pivoted together at their upper ends as shown at 36, the foremost legs having secured thereto a case 37.

These carriers have rearwardly extending flanges 46 between which are pivoted clips 4:? that cooperate with the rear wall 38 to clamp the bulletins B. Springs as may be employed for yieldingly urging the clips 4157 into eoacting relation with the wall 38. This case is provided with an upwardly extending sign-board a9 projectin beyond the opposite edges of the case and hav ng suspended from its projecting ends chains which may be employed for holding reference books 51.

From the foregoing, it is thought that the construction, operation and many advantages of the herein described invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art, without further description, and it will be understood that various changes in the size, shape, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as claimed.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is 1- 1. In a device of the character set forth, the combination with a supporting structure including ease having a rear wall and a transparent wall, said supporting structure having slots, and clips having mountings adjustably engaged in the slots, said clips eoacting with one of the walls to clamp thereagainst articles to be displayed through the transparent wall.

2. In a device of the character set forth, the combination with a supporting structure including a wall, said. supporting structure having a slot, of a carrier having a bolt slidable in the slot for securing the carrier in diiferent adjusted positions, a clip pivoted in the carrier and bearing against the clamp thereagainst a sheet placed between the clip and wall.

4:. In a device of the character set forth,

the combination with a case having a trans parent face, of a plurality of standards in the case, and clips mounted on the stand ards and adjustable along the same, said clips having elements coacting with the transparent face to clamp articles thereagainst.

In a device of the character set forth, he combination with a case having a transparent face and a rear movable closure, of standards located in the ease, carriers slidable in the standards, means for securing the carriers in different positions to the standards, and yielding clips mounted on the carriers and eoacting with the transparent face to clamp articles thereagainst.

6. In a device of the character set forth, the combination with a case having a transparent front face and a movable rear door, of spaced standards located in the case and having longitudinal slots, carriers slidable in the standards and having bolts passing through the slots, and yielding clips mounted on the carriers and eoacting with. the

rear side of the transparent face for clan1ping articles thereagainst.
