A display device comprises a frame having a viewing aperture, display material such as advertising posters or textile or plastic web material being supported by a rigid plate 8 in a concave curve as viewed from the front and illuminated directly by fluorescent lamps such as 7, 9 disposed within the upper and/or lower or one or each of the side parts of the frame and screened from normal viewing positions. The frame may be of wood, metal or hard plastics and the plate 8 of metal, plastics or composition board.
