with bakery goods.
A further object is the production of a box which will be of economical construction, one which maybe readily and easily arranged for use, and one which will permit of employment in connection with goods of various shapes.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed I The invention willbe best understood by reference to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, and in which,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a folding box embodying the invention, showing the same arranged for accommodating square or rectangular goods, Fig. 2 is a view similar to Fig. 1 showing the box arranged for the reception of circular goods, Fig. 3 is a reduced side elevation of thelateral wall forming member of the box unfolded, Fig. 4 is an enlarged detail section taken on line w-a2 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 5 is an eniarged detail section taken on line y-y of Fig. 2.
The preferred form of construction, as illustrated in the drawing, comprises a lateral wallfirming member 1 which is formed of a single piece of pasteboard or other similar suitable material which is of elongated substantially rectangular outline. One side of the member 1 is provided with a plurality of spaced transversely extending scores 2, said scores extending only partially through said member, as clearly shown in Fig. 3. lVith this arrangement, when the member 1 is bent upon itself, with the scored side thereof turned outwardly, a rectangular wall will be formed with the scores defining the corners of the Wall, as clearly shown in Fig. 1. Also, with this arrangement, when the member 1 is bent in the opposite direction,
that is with the scored side thereof turned inwardly a circular wall will be formed by the fact that the outer surface of the wall being unmutilated or unscored will effect uniform bending-at all points insteadof only at the scores 2 as was the case when said member was bent in the opposite direction, as above described. Thus, with this arrangement it will be seen that, the member 1 may be bent to form either a rectangular or circular box so as to best accommodate the goods in conjunction with which the same is to be employed.
In order to lock the ends of the member 1 in operative relation, one of said ends is formed with a tongue 3 which is adapted to interlock with either one of a pair of spaced slots .4 and 5 provided in the other end of said member. Two slots 4 and 5 are provided in order to permit of the formation the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appendedclaims.
' Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A paper box comprising a circular lateral wall formed of a single elongated piece of resilient material, said member being provided with scores on its inner surface whereby said member may, by reverse bending, be
' formed into a rectangular wall, substantially as described.
2. A paper box comprising a circular latvided with a plurality of transversely extending scores on its inner surface whereby said member may, by reverse bending, be formed into a rectangular wall, substantially as described.
' 3. A paper box comprising a circular lat- 5 eral Wall formed of a single elongated piece of resilient material, said member being provided on its inner surface with a plurality of spaced parallel transversely extending scores each extending part way through 10 said member whereby said member may, by
reverse bending, be formed into a wall of polygonal form with the corners defined by said scores, substantially as described.-
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of 15 two subscribing witnesses;
ERICH STEUDEL.
