Description

WILLIAM H. HIGGINS, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
COAT-HANGER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 2i, MMS.
Application filed September 16, 1915. Serial No. 51,023.
To all 1li/0m 'it may concern Be lit known that I, IVILLIAMH. HIGGINS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cool; and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Coat-Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to hangers for coats and other garments whereby the same are hung up when not worn. rlhe hanger, as ordinarily constructed and arranged, is apt to creep up when thev coat is worn, and become exposed, so that the coat presents an unsightly appearance, this being more frequently the case when the person is wearing a standing collar.
The invention therefore has for its object to provide a device which will prevent the hanger from assuming this position, said device eifectually holding the hanger down out of sight.
In the accompanyingdrawing, Figure l is an elevation showing the application of the invention, and F ig. 2 is a cross-section on the line 2 2 of F ig. l.
In the drawing, 5 denotes the upper portion of a coat or other garment to which the invention may be advantageously applied. The back of the coat, near the collar, has the usual hanger 6 whereby the coat is hung up when not worn. The protecting or guard device which is the subject matter of thepresent application for patent is a strip 'l' of fabric which is sewed or otherwise secured to the inside of the coat so as to y cover the hanger. The strip is attached to the coat at its bottom edge and at both ends, the top edge being left free and detached from the coat to permit access to the hanger.
The top free edge of the strip has a recess 8 s.
through which a portion of the upper edge of the hanger is exposed, to permit ready access to the hanger when the coat is to be hung up by the same, the hanger being pulled out from beneath the strip for this purpose. When the coat is taken down to be worn, the hanger is tucked back under the strip, and it is held down by the latter and prevented from creeping up so as to be exposed above the top edge of the coat colsaid edge having a` recess across which the upper edge of the hanger extends and through which it is exposed.
In testimony whereof I aiix my signature in presence of a witness.
IVILLIAM H. HIGGINS.
Witness S. J. LEHRER.
