Description

w. H. HARVEY.
Improvement in Lubricator'for Axles'and other spindles.
120,515". A Patntex'i 0ct. 31, `1871.
vente? UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLARD H. HARVEY, OF BANGOR, MAINE.
IMPROVEMENT IN LUBRICATORS FOR AXLES AND OTHER SPINDLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 120,515, dated October 31, 1871.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLARD H. HARVEY, of Bangor, in the county of Penobscot and State of Maine, have invented a new and valuable Iniprovement in Lubricators; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing making a part of this specification, and to the letters and gures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawing is avertical section of my invention.
This invention has relation to axle-lubricators; and the novelty consists in the construction and arrangement of an apparatus having a reservoir for oil or grease, and a syringe for projecting it along the surface of the spindle, as hereinafter described.
Referring to the accompanying drawing, which illustrates this invention, A represents the spindle of an axle; B, a wheel-hub; C, an orifice in the hub leading to said spindle; D, pivoted plate, designed to cover said orifice. E designates a cylindrical cup or reservoir adapted to contain lubricating oil, with which it is supplied through a tube, E1, having a cover or cap, E2. Within said reservoir is arranged a syringe-tube, F, terminating at its lower end in a narrow stem, F', which lits the orifice C, into which it is inserted to oil the spindle. G designates the piston of the syringe; H, an aperture/by means of which the tube F and reservoir E communicate, and through which oil is conducted from the latter to the syringe.
The lubricator is applied to the spindle and the oil injected as if with an ordinary syringe.
I claim as my invention- The lubricator herein described, having the reservoir E, syringe F, comlnunicating orifice H, and piston Gr, as and for the purposes specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
WILLARD H. HARVEY. Witnesses:
