Description

\ y John Hodge; Figzl. BRIcATOq.
MENTE JUN 27 1871 Ei' A, ha
PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN HODGE, OF HARRISON, NEW JERSEY.
IMPROVEMENT IN LUBRICATORS.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 116,442, dated June 27, 1871.
To all 'whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN HODGE, of Harrison, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and "aluable Improvement in Lubricators; and l do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description oi' the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l ot' the drawing is a representation of a longitudinal section of my invention. Fig. 2 is a cross-section of the saine.
My invention relates to means for lubricating wheels and pulleys; and consists, mainly, in the manner of attaching the oil-cup to the box by means' of a spiral conduit or tube.-
A of the drawing designates the box of a Wheel or pulley; B, the oil-cup, closed by a tightly-fitting screw-cap with a milled head. One end of the spiral tube O is attached to the base of the oil-cup and the other end is inserted into the aperture e made in the box. This aperture e extends through to the inside surface of the box, or to that part of it which is fitted to the axle.
Let the wheel be supposed to revolve in the direction indicated by the i arrow thereon delineated, then the oil contained in the cup B and tube O will tend to iiow in the opposite direction or toward the axle, thus keeping the same lubricated so long as there remains any oil in the cup or spiral tube.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In combination With the box A of a Wheel or pulley, the revolving oil-cup B having spiral conduit C, as specied.
In testimony that I claim the above Ihave hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two Witnesses.
JOHN HODGE.
Witnesses:
