IRESSURE-ROLL RELEASE FOR WRINGERS.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ALBERT'E. HoLanAY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Naugatuck, in the county of New Haven for clothes wringers, and is an improvementupon my pressure release as covered in my companlon case Serial No. 88,009, filed March 31, 1916, the object being to provide a pressure release which can be used in connection with other forms of wringers, the construction of the same being such that the releasing spring is not connected directly to the top bar of the frame.
Other and further objects and advantages of the invention will be hereinafter set forth and the novel features thereof defined by the appended claims.
In the drawing Figure 1, is a front elevation partly in section, of a clothes wringer showing the application of my improved construction of pressure release thereto; and Fig. 2, is a top plan view of the same.
Like numerals of reference refer to like parts in the several figures of the drawing. In carrying out my invention, I employ a frame 1 which is composed of slotted side bars 2 connected at their lower ends by a rod 3 and connecting members 4 and at their upper ends by a detachably mounted top bar 5. Spaced bearings 6 and 7 are mounted in the slot of each of the side bars in which the shafts 8 and 9 of pressure rollers 10 and 11 are mounted, the shaft 8 being adapted to be driven by any suitable means. These shafts carry meshing gears, not shown, at each end of the pressure rolls which are incased by gear casings 11 and the upper bearlngs 7 carry spring supports 8 I on wh1ch are mounted the lower ends of pressure springs 12 carrying a pressure bar 13, the pressure bar being provided with plates 14 having studs fitting within the top of the springs, these plates being substantially the same as shown in my companion case.
The top bar 5 carries a pressure screw 15 at each end bearingagainst the plates 14 carried by the pressure bar 13 so as to exert Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed March a1, 1916. semi No. 88,010.
Patented Nov. 514, 1916.
a pressure'upon the bearings of the upper pressure roll through the medium of the sprlngs.
Arranged over the ends of the a side bars 2 of the frame, are cap members 16 provided with spaced sockets 17 and a central stop 18- for the purpose hereinafter fully described. Arranged on the top bar 5 1s a bowed sprin 19 which is provided with slotted end portions 20 through which the pressure screws 15 pass and loosely connect the spring to the top bar.
The ends of the springs are formed with.
eyes 21 in which are arranged pins 22 having a collar 23 secured thereon, the outwardly projecting ends of said pins being adapted to fit within the sockets 17 so as to secure the top bar in position within the slots of the plates 24 so as to allow the same to move freely when the same is elongated, the end movement of the spring being limited by the stops 18 so as to cause the pins to ride freely out of. the sockets.
When the wringer is in the position as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the top bar 5 is held in position by the pins which are seated within the sockets and pressure is being exerted on the pressure bar by the pressure screw so as to hold the superposed pressure rolls in contact with one another in position to be used in the ordinary manner. When a foreign object is drawn between the pressure rolls and it is desired to instantaneously release the pressure, it is only necessary to strike the spring 19 a blow which will cause the pins carried by the ends thereof, to ride out of the sockets as the spring is elongated which releases the presframe of the wringer to allow the bar to move vertically carrying with it, the pressure screws so as to release the pressure on the pressure bar.
I claim:
1. A clothes wringer, comprising a frame having pressure rolls mounted therein, pressure means for said rolls, a removably mounted top bar mounted in the frame of said wringer, pressure screws mounted in said top bar cooperating with said pressure means, hooks carried b the side bars of said frame, a bowed spring slidably mounted on the pressure screws of said top bar, and pins carried by the free ends of said spring engaging said hooks for holding said top bar in position within said frame.
2. A clothes wringer, comprising a frame having slotted side bars, pressure rolls mounted in said frame, pressure means for said rolls, hooks carried by the side bars of said frame, pressure screws carried by said top bar cooperating with said pressure means, a bowed spring slidably mounted on the pressure screws of said top bar, transversely arranged pins carried by the free ends of said spring cooperating with said I hooks, and stops carried by the side bars arranged in the path of travel of the free ends of said spring. 7
3. A clothes wrlnger, comprising a frame having slotted side bars, pressure rolls mounted in said frame, pressure springs for said pressure rolls, a pressure bar mounted upon said springs, a top bar movably mountedin said frame, pressure screws carried by said' top bar engaging said pressure bar, cap members carried by the side bars of said frame provided with oppositely-disposed hooks, a bowed spring mounted upon said top bar carrying transversely arranged pins at its ends cooperating with said hooks, and stops extending upwardly from said cap members for limiting the movement of the ends of said spring.
4. A clothes wringer, comprising a frame having slotted side bars, cap members secured to the upper ends of. said side bars provided witlroppositely disposed sockets, pressure rolls mounted in said frame, a top bar mounted within the side bars of said fraine, pressure screws carried by said top bar, a bowed spring carried by the top bar having slotted ends to receive the pressure screws and provided with transversely arranged-pins cooperating with. said sockets for holding said bar in position within said frame, and stops formed on the ends of said cap members for limiting the movement of movable top bar mounted in said frame,
pressure screws carried by said top bar co operating with said pressure means. cap members carried by the side bars of said frame provided with oppositely disposed sockets, a bowed spring having slotted portions to receive the pressure screws of said top bar, eyes formed on the ends of said spring, pins arranged in said eyes detachably mounted within said sockets, and stops formed on said caps in the path of travel of the free ends of said spring.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
