PHOTOGRAPHIC-PRIN TING FRAME.
Application filed January 28, 1916.
To all whom 2'25 may concern:
Be it known that I, Emvns'r C. ScUDnnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Farmington, in the county of Fulton, State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Photographic- Printing Frames; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to photographic printing frames.
The object of the invention is to provide a photographic printing frame embodying an improved construction whereby a plurality of prints may be had from a single negative without necessitating the application of a second piece of sensitized paper into the frame.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out. in the appended claims.
In describing the invention in detail ref erence will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts in the several views, and in which Figure l is a plan view of a printing frame constructed in accordance with the invention; Fig. 2, a longitudinal section of same; Fig. 8, a transverse section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1; Fig. 4:, a section on the line 47a of Fig. 1; Fig. 5, a view similar to Fig. 4 with the negative frame moved to a second printing position; Fig. 6, a top view of the base member of the frame; Fig. 7, a section on the line 7-7 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 8, a perspective view looking at the bottom of the negative holder.
Referring to thedrawings the improved printing frame is shown as comprising a base member A and a top or cover member B hinged to the base member whereby said top or cover member may be swung to a position to entirely expose the upper side of the base member. Secured to the upper side of the base member A is a panel 10 and secured to the outer side of this panel is another panel 11. The panel 10 is provided on either side of the panel 11 with corre- Spccification of Letters -Eatent.

spending recesses 12, four such recesses being shown in this instance on either side of the panel 11. The purpose of tiese recesses will presently appear. The sheet of sensitized paper to be printed is adapted to be supported by the panel 11, such sheet of paper being disposed upon the upper side of the panel 11 and in order to secure same in place there is mounted on the panel 11 adj acent each end a spring finger 13 for engagement over the corresponding end of a sheet of sensitized paper. Pivotally mounted on the base A adjacent the side thereof remote from the hinge connection of the top mem ber B arelatches 14': keepers 15 mounted on the top member to lock the latter in printing position.
The top member B is formed of a box like structure including side members 17 and 18, end members 19 and 20 and a top member2l slidably engaged in openings 22 in the end members 19 and 20. Disposed within the top member B is a negative ca 'rying frame 2 the open portion. of which registers with an opening 24: in the member 21. Secured to the frame 23 is a. plurality of screws 25 which are slidably engaged in openings 26 in the member 21. By this construction the frame 23 is capable of a predetermined movement toward and away from the member 21 and is yieldingly held at the limit of its movement away from the member 21 through the medium of springs 27 interposed between said member and the frame 23. Mounted on the lower side of the frame 23 at each corner of the latter are rollers 28 which engage the upper side of the panel 10 and seat in the recesses 12 when the frame 23 is in respective printing positions. Also mounted on the underside of the frame 23 is a plurality of spring fingers 29 through the instrumentality of which a negative is properly held to the frame.
The operation of the frame will be apparent. After a printing operation has been completed with the parts in the position shown in Fig. 4 it is only necessary in order to effect a second printing of the negative on the same sheet of paper to force the mem ber 21 longitudinally and thereby position the frame 28 as shown in Fig. 5 when the second printing operation is proceeded with. To inspect a print it is only necessary to release the latches l4 and raise the cover B.
adapted to engage with It willbe noted that the frame 23 is'held steady in either printing position by engagement of the rollers 28 in the recesses 12'.
hat is claimed is 1. A photographic printing frame com risin a base a cover hin ed thereto means 7 for securing a sheet of sensitized paper to the base, a negative carrying frame movably V ing said'fra-ine atthe limit of its movement away from the top member, and means for releasably seeuring the frame 1n different printing positions with respect to a sheet of sensitized paper carried by the base.
A photographicprinting trams com prising a base having recesses in its upper side, a cover hinged to the base, said cover 7 including a slidably mounted 5013' member, a negative'carrying frame secured to the top member for movement therewith and or movement toward and away from the top member, means for yieldingly iolding the frame at the limit of its movement away fromthe top member, anti rollers on the frame enga 'eable in the recesses of the base b I g to secure the frame in difierent positions w th respect to a sheet of sensitized paper earned by the base.
In testimony whereot, l athx my signatnre, 1n the presence of two wltnesses.
' 'ERNEST C. SCUDDER.
