GAS-PLATE.
Application filed June 26, 1914, Serial No. 847,391. Renewed July 28, 1916.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that l, Gnonen E. PIoKUr, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newark, in the county of Licking and State of Chic, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gas-Plates, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to produce an improved gas hot plate which comprises a minimum number of parts and which may be quickly and easily assembled.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of a gas hot plate eml'iodyino' the features of my invention, parts being oroken away and shown in section. Fig. 2 is an outer side view of one of the end frames of the plate, and Fig. 3 is an illner side view of said end frame.
In its preferred form the plate comprises two rigid end frames 5 and 6 and a rectangular top frame 7 rigidly secured to and forming the sole connection between said end frames. Each end frame comprises feet a at opposite ends of the frame. The top frame is provided at its inner edge with an offset ledge 8 which serves to support the removable grids 9 upon which the cooking utensils are supported. Each of the end frames has a ledge 10 at its inner side to re ceive the ledge 8 of the top frame, and each end frame is provided at its outer side with two horizontal bifurcated lugs 11 located near the front and rear edges of the frame, the outer edge of the top frame 7 resting upon said lugs. Bolts 12 are passed through the frame 7 and through the lugs 11, said bolts having nuts 13 threaded on their lower ends beneath the lugs, so that when the bolts are tightened up the end frames 5 and (3 will be ri idly clamped to the top frame 7.
Adjacent to their lower ends the end frames are provided with ledges 14: upon wnich are slidably supported the ends of a drip pan 15. At their forward edges the end frames have notches 16 to permit of withdrawal of said drip pan for cleaning or other purposes. Rearward movement of the drip pan is limited by ribs 17 on the end frames.
The burners 18 are supported on a rod Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 111,959.
1}), the ends of which are bent in the same dlrection at right angles to the body'of the rod. These ends are adapted to be seated in either of two positions in a pair of sockets 20 on the end frames, that is to say the ends extending either upwardly or downwardly from the rod. The burners may thus be supported at different distances from the grids 9 so that the plate may be used either with natural gas or manufactured gas.
Er gas supply pipe 21 is mounted in the ends of a pair of arms 22 which are fixed to the top frame 7, the burners 18 being suitably connected to said supply pipe.
Heretofore gas plates of this character have usually been supported by four legs attached to the corners of the top frame, and the drip pan, if there one, has been permanently secured to said legs to brace them. in my plate the two end frames are rigidly attached to the top frame so as to form a rigid support, and the burners, drip pan, and grids 9 are removably mounted on such support, and need no fastening devices. The plate thus comprises a minimum number of parts which may be quickly and easily assembled.
I claim as my invention 1. In a gas plate, the combination of a rectangular top frame having at its inner edge an offset ledge, a grid mounted on said lodge, a pair of end frames having outwardly projecting bifurcated lugs, said end frames having-ledges that underlie the top frame, and bolts passing through said top frame and through said lugs to rigidly secure the end frames to the top frame the outer edges of the ends of said top frame resting upon said lugs.
In a gas plate, the combination of a supporting frame having a pair of sockets at opposite ends thereof, and a burner-supporting rod having angular ends adapted to be seated in said sockets in either of two positions for supporting the burners at different elevations.
3. A gas plate of the character described comprising a top frame, two rigid end frames attached to the respective ends of the top frame, each end frame comprising a unitary structure having supporting feet and a horizontal ledge extending along the in-' In testimony whereof, I hereunto set my ner face thereof, said inner flaee also having hand in the presence'of two witnesses.
