UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
OTIS S. OSGOOD, OF MOUNT PLEASANT, IOWA, ASSIGNOB OF ONE-HALF OF HIS RIGHT TO S. B. FREEMAN, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN BED-BOTTOMS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 120,315, dated October 24, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OTIS S. OSGOOD, of Mount Pleasant, in the county of Henry and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bed-Sprin gs and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction of a spring for bed-bottoms, and in the mode of connecting the spring with the bed-bottom and frame upon which it rests, all of which will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, which represents a perspective View of my spring bed-bottom.
A A represents two parallel bars connected by means of two other parallel bars, B B, and when so connected form a frame to rest upon cleats in the sides of the bedstead. G O are the springs which support the bed-bottom D. These springs are C-shaped, as shown, and one end is attached to the upper side of the barA near the end. The spring then bends inward, downward, and outward under said bar, and then turns upward and inward again, its upper end being at-' tached to the under side of the cross-bar of the bottom D.
Two or more of these springs may be used at each end, and, if desired, I may add some in the center.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the frame A B, C-shaped springs (J O, and bed-bottom D, when said springs are attached to the top of the frame, then pass downward under the same, and then upward, supporting the bed-bottom, substantially as herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 25th day of July, 1871.
