ALEXANDER B. RONEY, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
FAUCE'I'.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 24, 1916.
Application filed February 3, 1916. Serial No. 76,052.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ALEXANDER B. HONEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Faucets, of which the following is a specification.
The object is to avoid the disadvantages of that type of faucets containing valve parts adapted to seat with the pressure for such valve parts are not directly accessible for renewal especially in the basin patterns, which have to be torn from their setting to get at the valve. Accordingly I have utilized the compression type of faucet for this purpose by changing the barrelportion which in the standard type stands vertical with the diaphragm part set at a right angle to the plane of the spout, one quarter turn around so as to have the plane of the diaphragm in the same plane as the spout, then instead of only one side of the diaphragm within the barrel being accessible by means of a threaded cap I make the pressure side also accessible by means of a threaded cap.
Another object is to effect a straight line seating of the valve to the pressure side of the diaphragm.
A third object is to give thevalve a strong stem support to resist the pressure.
A fourth object is to operate the faucet open and shut by means of a push and pull handle.
A fifth object is self-closing.
Figure 1, is a part section of Fig. 2, on line A. A. Fig. 2 is a part section of Fig. 1, on the line B. B. I Fig. 3 is a view of the slotted end of the barrel part of the faucet casing.
The valve and operating parts are assembled to the casing Fig. 2, in the following manner. The valve 1, provided with a vulcanized rubber gasket in the usual manner and with the head portion 2, and its stem part3, cut spiral, is first entered into the barrel part 4, from the pressure side 5, with its lugs 6, 6, slidably meshed in the barrel 7 7, then the spiral portion 9, of spindle 8, is connected to said stem and the flange portion 10, of said spindle part set in flush with the opposite side 11, of barrel 4, against a shoulder 12, therein and secured thereto revolubly by a threaded cap 13, which leaves the stem portion 14, of the spindle with its squared end 15, projecting out I through the cap part, then the other or pressure side 5, of the barrel is covered in by threaded cap part 17, which has an inner hub part 24, supporting one end of the valve stem, and an outer hub part 18, that serves as a bearing for one side 19, of the yoke handle 20, the side members of which 19, and 21, are sprung over the opposite sides of the barrel with one member 21, fastened to the squared end 15 of the stem portion 14, of the spindle part 8, while the other member 19, is journaled to the hub portion 18, of the opposite cap 17. Now a swing of the handle 20, back and forth will rotate spindle 8,
which is cam connected to the stem portion of the valve and move it in a straight line on and off the diaphragm to open and close the faucet, and the said handle will stay put forany flow of water, but when a coiled spring 25, is placed back of the valve its tension will overcome the friction of the cam' of the stem projecting through one wall of the barrel, and a yoke handle, one member of which is connected to the stem and the other member of whichis connected to said opposite wall of the barrel.
