SHOWER-VALVE AND VALVE-BOX.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 21, 1908.
Application filed June 14, 1907. Serial No. 378,886.
T all whom it mag concern:
Be it known that 1, JAMES A. WILSON, a
citizen of the United States, residing in Chitherefor of a strong, simple, efficient and durable construction, in which the valve will be self closing, may be conveniently set in its open positlon, in which the valve and its operating mechanism may be concealed in a box seated in the partition or wall and securely inclosed to prevent tampering with the valve or its operating mechanism, while at the same time it is readily accessible for removal or repairs, and in which the valve and its operating mechanism may be quickly and conveniently applied.
I My invention nsists in the means I emplzjov to practically accomplish this object or resiilt, as herein shown and described and moreparticularly set forth in the claims. to
n to, accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, Figure I-is a side elevation of a shower bath and valve box em bodying my invention; Fig. 2 is a front view, partly in vertical section with the removable cover of the valve box removed; Fig. 3 is a horizontal cross section on line 33 of Fig. 2, and Fig. 4 is a vertical longitudinal section on :lineA- l of Fig. 2.
In thedrawing A represents a shower-bath head or nozzle, A the inlet or supply ipe leading to the valve, A the outlet lea ing from-the valve to the shower and A the partition or wall in which the valve and its operatin mechanism and inclosing box are seated, a 1 these parts being of any customary or suitable construction.
B islthe valve shell havin the customary threaded nipples b and coup ing nuts C connectim the same with the inlet and outlet plpps K A.
is the valve, the same being self-closing, and having a stem 1) and s rin la -surrounding the same to automatica ly c ose the valve B against the valve seat 6 of the valve shell B. The s ring I) bears at one end against the valve 1 and at its outer end against the screw threaded cap B which is secured to the valve shell. The valve B has a recess 12 to receive the valve operating arm I), the shaft b of which turns in a removable coupling nut or stuffing box B which is secured to the valve shell B by screwthreads and a nut b. At its outer end the shaft b of the operating arm I) is rovided with a crank arm I). The valve she ll B'is firmly secured to the valve box 1) by screws 1) which are inserted through base flanges b with which the valve shell B is provided.
D is my wall-seated shower-bath-valve and valve-mechanism inclosing box which, in connection with the removable cover D serves not only to inclose and conceal from view but also to cooperatively combine and support the showervalve or cook and its operating mechanism or pull. The valve box D is provided at its ends (1 with openings d to receive the inlet and outlet pipes A A and its removable cover D is furnished with a hemispherical recess or hollow boss d to accommodate the screw cap B of the valve shell B. The cover D is removably but permanently secured to the valve box D by screws (F, and the marginal ends of the cover roject beyond the box D so that it may fit at against the outer surface of the threads f and a pin or screw f to prevent the knob or handle turning on the pu rod. The pull F is furnished with a valve set orprojectionf which is adapted to fit and reciprocate in the longitudinal way or channel j in the valve set sleeve F when the rod F is pulled outward, and to fit and turn in the transverse slot or channel f in the valve set sleeve F when the pull rod F is rotated, so aste v cause the same to engage the stop shoulder f of the valve set sleeve F and thus set the valve in its open position while the shower is in use. The outer shoulder j"? of the valve set sleeve F limits the outward movement of the pull rod F, so that no destructive or injurious strain can be exerted upon the valve or its operating mechanism through the pull rod F or its handle F The valveset sleeve F is rigidly and irremovably secured to the valve box cover D I claim 1. The combination with a shower head, of a valve and valve operating mechanism therefor, comprising a wall-seated valveinclosing box, a valve shell secured to the inner upright wall of said box, inlet and outlet pipes connecting with the valve shell and extending through the ends ofsaid box, a self closing valve in said shell, a valve operating arm, shaft and crank-arm, a removable cover for said box, a valve-set sleeve secured to said cover and having a valve-set shoulder, a valve-pull-rod extending through said valve-set sleeve and connected with said crank-arm of he valve and provided with a valve-set pr0je.tion to set the valve in its open position when the shower is in use, substantlally as s ecified.
2. The com ination with a valve and valve shell and mechanism for operating the valve, of a wall-seat box embracing said valve shell, valve and valve operating mechanism, a removable cover for said box, a valve-pull-rod extending through'the cover of the box and having a valve-set projection and a valve-set sleeve on the cover of the box, substantially as specified.
3. The combination with a self closing valve, of aninclosing box therefor having a removable cover, a valve set sleeve on said cover and a valve pull extending through said valve set sleeve, and interengagin devices on the valve pull and valve set s eeve for o erating said valve, substantially as spec-i ed.
4. The combination with a self closing valve, of an inclosing box therefor having a removable cover, a valve set sleeve on said cover and a valve pull extendin through said valve set sleeve, said valve pul having a valve set shoulder for enga ing the valve set sleeve for operating said va ve, substantially as specified.
5. The combination with a self closing valve, of a wall-seat box inclosing the same, a removable cover for said box, a valve-set sleeve on said cover and a valve-pull having a valve-set projection engaging said valveset sleeve to hold the valve open, substantially as specified.
