v S. D; PAGE. TEMPORARY BINDER. APPLICATION FILED OCT. 14. 1915.

TEMPORARY Brianna.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented 0ct.10, 1916.
Application filed October 14, 1915. Serial no. 55,748.
To all whom it may concern:
\ Be it known that I, SAMUEL D. PAGE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Des Moines, in the county of Polk and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Temporary Binders, of
which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in temporary binders, particularly adapted, though not necessarily limited in its use for temporarily binding together a number of periodicals such as newspapers, magazines and the like, into a compact cover or casing and one of the objects of the same is to improve and simplify devices of this character and to provide an improved device whereby the articles may be readily inserted and removed when desired.
- Other and further objects will appear from the following specification and claims taken in connection with the accompanying drawing and in which;
Figure 1 is a perspective view of an improved device of this character, showing the same open and with several periodicals secured therein. Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view of a modified form of the invention which is adapted for use when longer arti- 01% are to be bound therein. Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view taken on-line 33, Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a longitudinal sectional view on line 44, Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a longitudinal sectional view, taken on line 5-5, Fig. 2.
Referring more particularly to the drawing the numeral 10 designates a cover or casing of any desired size and configuration and constructed of any suitable material. To the back 11 of this casing is secured a body portion 12, constructed of any suitable stifi material such as metal or the like i and theextremities 13 of this body portion are deflected as shown,.to form laterally projecting flanges within each of which flanges are arranged apertures or openings 45 '14 passing therethrough and these openings it is ,obvious' that the thereof pass through the apertures 14 in the flanges 13. The extremities 18 of the fastening wires are bent back upon themselves and over the respective flanges 13 so as to secure the parts together.
In use, one of the ends of the fastening wire is preferably in the form of a hook, while the other end is straight so as to facilitate the insertion of the fastening wires.
After they are placed in position, the
straight end of the wire is bent back as here tofore described. The body 12-may be of anyv desired width according to the size of the casing and ifit is desired to bind together periodicals of considerable length or size, one or more additional portions 19 may be provided, each of which is provided with a laterally projecting flange 20, having openings 21 therethrough, similar to the openings 14 in the flanges 13. The body of the "portion 19 is connected with the body portion 12 and can be arranged at any point intermediate the ends of the latter, so that the openings 21 therein will be in alinement with the openings 14. y
In the event of the use of the portion 1 periodicals must be provided with an opemng through which this portion 20 passes to permit the fastening wires 17 to pass therethrough. The elongated openings 14 permit a plurality of periodicals to be held together.
With this improved construction it will I when desired.
What is claimed as new is:
1. A temporary binder embodying a body portion, the extremities of said body being shaped to form laterally projecting spaced substantially parallel flanges, there being openings in the flanges, and a fastening wire extending lengthwise of said body, the ex- I tremities of the wire projecting through the openings and being bent back over the flanges and upon itself.
2. A temporary binder embodying a body portion, said body being provided with a plurality of laterally projecting flanges spaced lengthwise of the body, each of said flanges being provided with an elongated opening extending transversely with respect to the said body, and detachable securing wires extending lengthwise of the body and passing through the said openings, the extremities of the wires being bent back upon themselves and over the respective adjacent flanges.
3. A temporary binder embodying a body portion, substantially parallel laterally pro- 5 ecting portions spaced longitudinally of said body, said portions being each provided with a plurality of separated openings I therethrough, said openings being elongated transversely of the said body, and the re- 10 spective openings in the said portions being in alinement, and fastening Wires passing through alined openings, the ends of the Wires being bent back upon themselves and over the respective adjacent laterally projecting portion.
In Witness whereof, I hereunto subscribe my name to this specification in the'presence of two Witnesses.
