Description
PATE *E AMOS H. FOE, OF STRATHROY, CANADA.
IMPROVEMENT IN PUMP-PISTONSV.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 120,054, dated October 17, 1871.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, AMOs H. FOE, of Strathroy, in the county of Middlesex and Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Pump-Valves; and I do declare that the following is atrue and accurate description thereof, reference being had to the accornpanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon, and being a part of this speciication, in which- Figure lis a perspective of my valve or sucker,77 attacked to the rod. Fig. 2 is a section of the saine, showing the internal construction in perspective with the collar removed.
Like letters refer to like parts in each figure.
The nature of this invention relates to an improved construction of pump-valves or suckers, which will combine cheapness of construction with efficiency and durability. It consists of forming the valve-seat frame of an upper and under portion made of any suitable metal, with a washer between the same made of leather, and in the combination of said parts with a valve 'and collar and rod, as more fully hereinafter described. p
In the accompanying drawing, A represents the lower section cast with a shoulder, a, which latter is designed to fit the bore of the pump-log, and upon it the lower edge of the collar rests.
B is the upper section provided with a series of holes, b, through it, and between it and the upper section A is placed the leather section C. The valve D rests upon the upper section, and
covers the aperture E, which is of the same dimensions through each of the sections. The valve is secured by suitable nails driven through the leather packing', and through the holes b and leather section O, and clinched on the under side thereof by impact with the top of the lower section A. F is the rod7 to the lower end of which the seat-frame is secured by the straps G, the lower ends of which pass through sections A B O, and hold them rigidly together by means of the nuts d, which engage with suitable threads on the lower ends of the straps. The collar H, which is of leather or other suitable material, is nailed to place, as shown, the nails being driven through it into the latter section O.
It will readily be perceived that this sucker or valve-seat frame will be much more durable than those made of wood in the ordinary manner.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The valve-seat frame or sucker of the three sections A B C, in such a manner as will admit of nailing on the valve and collar, substantially as herein set forth.
2. The arrangement of said sections A B C with the valve D, rod F, and straps G, and collar H, substantially as set forth.
AMOS H. FOE.
