WARREN v. Jamison, or BLOOMSBURG, rnmsvnvma assmiron 'ro mnarcen CAR AND romar compan or s'r. LOUIS, mssounr, a conroaa'rronor new Jnnsnx.
To all whom it may concern Be it lmown that I, WARREN V. JOHNSON,
residing at Bloomsburg, Columbia county, Pennsylvania, and being a citizen of the United States, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mine-Cars, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact descri tion, such as will enable others skilled in heart to which it appertains to make and to use the same, reference being had to the accompanyin drawin which illustrate the preferred orm of t e invention, though it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the exact details of construction shown and described, as it is obvious that various modifications thereof within the scope of the claims will-occur topersons skilled in the art;
In said drawings: Figure 1 is a side elevational View of my improved mine car;
Fig. 2 is an end viewthereof; Fig. 3 is aview of the opposite end of the car; Fig. 4 is a plan view; Fig. 5 is a vertical sectional view, the section being taken on line 55 .of Fig. 2; and Fig. 6. is a similar view,the section being taken on line6+6 of Fig. 3.
A. mine car should be light, strong and durable, possessing inherent qualities of elasticity to adapt it to resist service shocks,
and it should be so fashioned that it can be readily repaired in such parts where repairs are most frequently ,required. I
For the bituminous regions it has been found advisable to employ wood in cars, particularly in mine cars, and the present invention contemplates the employment of wood flooring 1 extending through and beyond the body portion A to form end bumpers of a composite type comprising the portions of the floor which extend beyond the body cooperating with wood bumper blocks 2 and end bum r bands 3 of metal which fit over the on s of the floor and bumper blocks. With these rate draw bars. 4 of strap formation whi extend preferably from endto end of the car, resting on and being bolted removably to the central floor board as best shown in Fig. 40f the drawings, the end portions of such draw bars be: ing bent'upwardly, as best shown in Fig. v1,
to form a space intermediate the bumper Specification of Letters Patent. Application med August a, 1916. Serial No. 113,127.

and said "draw bar for the used with thist pe of cars. Coiiperatin with the wood oor are side sheets 5, en sheets 6 and end doors 7, all of which are preferably formed of thin corrugated sheet metal to provide sufiicient strength and elasticity for service. 7
Extending across below the floor 1 and paralleling the side sheets 5, are shown channel-shapedj-body bands 8 which are bolted totheifioorin' and riveted to the: side sheets, thus establis in a removable connection between the be y bands 8 an he floor ng, and a permanent connection between the side sheets and said body bands. Resting upon the floor 1, and within the side sheets 5, are pressed angle-shaped members 9 which extend substantially the length of the interior of the body portion of the car '70. and said angle members 9 are riveted to the side sheets 5 and body bands 8 by, through rivets 9 at convenient intervals throughout the length of the car body. The horizontal le of this angle memberg9, is secured by b0 ts to the floor 1 as andlfor the purposes hereinafter described.
Paralleling the corrugations of the side sheet :5 in the preferred construction, I provide relatively. narrow corrugated bands 10 which reinforce the metal of said sheet 5 in proximity to the bodybands 8 and rivets ass through the sheets 5, corrugated that the eorrugated sheets *may be flattened within the zones 'of thebody-bands 8, if desired, tho h this-calls for an additional operation an an expense which is not nec? essary.
The fixed endsheet 6. extends outwardly beyond the line of the side sheets -5', as best shown in Fig. 2,'and laps the outstanding flan" es .8 of the endbody band 8 at that end of t e car bodyand said sheet 6 is secured thereto by riyets 6", as best shown in Flg.
2, said sheet extending downwardly to the floor to which'it is connectedthrou h the bottom flange 6 thereof, which, like t e longitudinally extending angles 9, is preferably bolted to thewood floor. At the opposite. end of. the car bod is" provided a dumpin door comprising t e 7 of-COiTliga and bearing against said body hands, a fixed witness whereof I have hereunto set end sheet riveted to a flange, of one body my hand in the presence oftwo witnesses.
