To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, LoUIs A. JIRANEK, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Birnamwood, in the county of Shawano and State of VJisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Commode Structures for Baby Cabinets or Dressers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.

The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in baby dressers or cabinets particularly of the type embodied in patent numbered 1,082,082 granted to me December 23, 1913, and more especially directed to the provision of a structure whereby a portion of the cabinet may serve as a commode chair.

The object of the present invention is to provide a means whereby an infant may be most conveniently manipulated in connection with a commode, which means forms a part of the cabinet and may when not in use he disassembled and otherwise collapsed and disposed so as to occupy a minimum of space and be entirely out of the way and concealed when not in use.

More specifically the object resides in the provision of a drawer member in a cabinet which carries a commode and a seat member adapted to be disposed on the drawer when pulled out, said seat member being adapted to be disposed within the drawer when not in use.

With the above and other objects andadvantages in view, the invention resides more particularly in the novel combination, arrangement and formation of parts more particularly hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

Reference is had to the accompanying drawings wherein similar characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views and in which:

Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view taken longitudinally through the drawer and adjacent portion of the cabinet, this view being on the line 11 of Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the drawer, with the seat members collapsed and disposed therein. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view through the drawer on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2, showing the seat member in operative position thereon.

Referring now vmore particularly to the 7 spaced below the main walls of the drawer,

the purpose of these top portions being to form relatively wide seats for the rims of covers 10 provided for the front and intermediate compartments whereby the escape of noxious fumes from the compartments is prevented, this result being enhanced by outwardly offsetting at their tops the wall portions bounding the compartments and providing enlarged portions of the covers to seat in the offsets, whereby a more tortuous path is provided for any fumes tending to escape. The covers 8 are preferably hollow and contain suitable antiseptic and deodorizing material which is inserted through openings in their inner faces, such openings being normally closed by perforated plates 11.

The front compartment is adapted to contain a commode 12 and the intermediate compartment is adapted to contain a second commode or other receptacle 13 for soiled diapers, the rear compartment being relatively larger and adapted to contain a seat member which in operation is placed over the front compartment to form substantially a commode chair. This seat member comprises a suitably apertured seat base 14 which rests on the top wall portions 8 and 9 and is of such size as to lie against and be held against lateral movement by those portions of the main drawer walls which project above the portions 8 and 9. A seat back 15 is pivotally carried by plates 16 at the rear side portions of the base and a retaining and table strip 17 similar to that found in an ordinary high-chair is provided and carried by a pair of links 18 secured to its sides and pivoted to the back and a second pair of links 19 pivoted to its sides and pivoted to the seat base. Thus this entire structure can be collapsed by illoving the seat back forwardly to lie on the base, as shown in Fig. 1, but when an infant is on. the seat its body holds the structure against collapsing and the infant is at the same time firmly held in the seat by the strip 17, it being noted that the seat back is held from undesired backward swinging by projections 20 adjacent its pivot and engageable with the seat base. A foot rest 21 is also provided which is adapted to hang outwardly of the drawer when in operative position, and which is carried :by links 22 secured to its ends and secured pivotally to plates 23 at the forward 1 portion. of the seat base, these plates having their link engaging portions upwardly ofiset to clear the adjacent drawer wall. The entire seat member may thus be readily collapsed and folded to be placed within the rear compartment of the drawer as shown in Fi 1.
