Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 26, 1916.
Application filed April 6, 1915. Serial No. 19,577.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN F. RErLLY, a citizen of the United States, residlng at Somerville, in the county of Middlesex and A and arranged to hold a bundle of rods andby means of which said bundle may be conveniently and easily conveyed from one place to another.
Another object of the invention is to provide a holder for articles of the class described, which holder is capable of being adjusted to fit rods of various lengths.
The invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts set forth in the following specification and particularly pointed out in the claim.
' Referring to the drawings: Figure 1 is a side elevation of a holder embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is an end elevation of said holder. Fig. 3 is a detail longitudinalsection to show the means for connecting the straps to the end members.

In the drawings, 5 represents a bundle of rods, more particularly rods known as conduit or sewer rods, which are provided with couplings at the ends whereby said rods may be joined together and pushed'through conduits, section by section. from one. manhole to another and then disconnected section by section, said rods being of a length sufficient topermit them to be conveniently and easily handled within said manhole.
6, 6 are caps or inclosing elements constructed and arranged to inclose opposite ends of the rods 5. These caps are con structed of sheet material, preferably of galvanized iron or steel. One of the ends of the caps -6 is closed preferably by a sheet metal end 7 having a flange 8 extending entirely around the edge thereof and secured by rivets 9 to the side portion 10, said side portion being preferably cylindrical in shape. A bead 11 is formed at the open end of the cap 6 to reinforce said end. The caps 6 are reinforced by longitudinally arranged ribs 12 constructed of sheet metal of channel formation and riveted or secured in any suitable manner thereto.
The members 6 are adjustably connected together by flexible and adjustable members consisting of straps 13 formed in two parts 14 and 15. Each of said parts is secured to one of the caps 6 by being looped at 16, through eyes 17 attached to said caps. The strap sections 14:21.18 each provided with a buckle 18 of the usual and well-known construction andthese buckles receive the free and perforated ends of the strap sections 15.
The eyes 17 are also preferably constructed of sheet metal which is bent double and may be secured to the inclosures or caps 6 by rivets 19. A portion of the material constituting said eyes is partially detached from the main portion thereof to form openings 20 extending through both layers of said material. The partially detached portions 21, 21 0f said ,material are bent outwardly in opposite directions and then backwardly toward each other and extend in the direction, of the other cap of said pair of caps in order to form smooth rounded edges 22, 22 against which the loops 16 of said straps 13 are adapted to bear, therebypreventing the cutting of the straps by any sharp edges of the metal. To enable the holder or more particularly the rods to be more easily and conveniently collectively conveyed from place to place, each of'said caps is provided with a handle 23 which may be secured at any convenient point on sald cap, but in the present instance sald handle is secured to the end member 7 thereof Within the recess formed by the flange or rim 8 so as not to interfere with the standing of the cap upon its end or base.
Having thus described my invention What I claim and desire by Letters Patent to secure is:
