. IMPROVEMENT IN COMPOSITION BOXES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No.119,603, dated October 3, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, THOMAS BRLAN GUNNING, of the city, county, and State of New York,have invented a new an d useful Improvement in Boxes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference bein g had to the accompanying` drawing forming part of this specification.
My invention consists in an improved mode of constructing boxes so that the covers will tightly and automatically clasp the bodies thereof and form a joint, as hereinafter fully described and pointed out in the claim.
The drawing` is a vertical and central section of my improved box-joint.
A represents the body of the box, which may be of any desired form, but is preferably made circular. a. is a projecting,` shoulder; b, the upper edge; and c, the outer faceof this body. B is the cover, which has a rim, d, and inner side c.
The essential requirements. of my invention are two-first, that the box shall be made of rubber or other elastic material; second, that the outer face c of the body and the inner side c of the rim of the cover shall be correspondingly beveled.
The advantage of constructing a box of elastic material with beveled-edged corner and body is, that it forms a clasp-joint that will hold iirmly and yet can be easily separated.
Having thus described all that is necessary to a full understanding` of my invention, what I esteem tO be new, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is-
A box formed of elastic material, with the outer face c of the body and the inner face ,c of the rim of the cover correspondingly beveled, as and for the purpose specified.
