Description
HENRY C. MILLIGAN.
, Improvement in Spoons. No 115 085 PatentedMay 23,1871.
witncsmz jg mmw lmnmm-umacnml/c mums/roams: PROCESS) UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE HENRY O. MILLIGAN, OF SOUTH ORANGE, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR TO F LORIAN GROSJEAN, OF WOODHAVEN, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN SPOONS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 115,085, dated May 23, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY 0. MILLIGAN, of South Orange, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Spoon; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification.
My invention consists in a new way of constructing a ribbed re-enforcement to the point of junction between the handle and bowl of a spoon.
1 will now proceed to describe all that may tend to throw light on or produce a clear apprehension of my improved form of re-enforcement, and then specify the same in the summary or' claim.
Figure 1 is a longitudinal section; Fig. 2, a plan view of a spoon re-enforced at the point of strain according to my invention. Fig. 3 is a detail side view of the re-enforeement itself.
A is the bowl, and B the handle; both made in one, piece. 0 is a thick convex rib, with spurs E thereunder. The latter is applied to the former along the neck which joins the handle and bowl.
Holes are made in the spoon to receive the spring, and are countersunk to allow them to be riveted flush with the surface of the spoon.
The advantage of this form of construction consistsin its comparative cheapness, strength, and durability.
Having thus described all that is necessary to a full understanding of my invention, what I esteem to be new, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is-
In combination with a bowl, A, and handle B, both made in one piece, the thick convex rib C, laid across the junction thereof, and riveted thereto by the spurs E, as described.
HENRY C. MILLIGAN.
