ADJUSTABLE HARllTES-EBACKET.
Application filed April 27, 1915.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH J. DOLECHEK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ellsworth, in the county of Ellsworth and State of Kansas, have invented a new and useful Adjustable Harness-Bracket, of which the following in a specification.
The device forming the subject matter of this application is adapted to be employed for hanging up harness in a barn, for displaying merchandise in a store, and under any and all similar circumstances which call for a vertically sliding, laterally swinging support or bracket.
struction of the vertically moving bracket to provide novel means whereby the bracket may be mounted for vertical sliding movement and for lateral swinging movement, to
provide means whereby the vertical movement of the bracket may be prevented, and to provide means for raising and lowermg the bracket.
It is within the scope of the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that type to which the present invention appertains.
With the above and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and inthe details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the inventionherein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawing: Figure 1 shows the invention in side elevation, parts appearing in section; Fig. 2 is a vertical section taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a transverse section taken slightly above the bracket, the bracket being swung around laterally, so as to bind the suspending element against the support thereby preventing a downward movement of the bracket.
In carrying out the present invention there is provided a support 1 which may be a post, a portion of the wall of a bulldlng or the like. Adjacent its lowerend, the support 1 is provided with a foot-block 2.
The invention comprises a vertical track 3, the lower end of which is attached by means of one or more securing elements 4 to the foot block 2. Adjacent its upper end,
the track 3 is offset as shown at 5 to form Specification of Letters Patent.
The invention aims to improve the con Patented Aug. 22, 121$.
Serial No. 24,2?4.
a foot 6 which bears against the support 1, the foot 6 being held to the support 1 by means of one or more securing elements 7.
The invention comprises a vertically moving, laterally swinging bracket coacting with the track 3. The bracket comprises a tubular guide 8 mounted to slide on the track 3 and to rotate thereon. A brace 9 const tutes a part of the bracket, the brace 9 being provided at its lower end with an eye 10 surrounding and secured to the guide 8. Secured to the upper end of the guide 8 is an eye 11 comprising an extension 12 supporting the inner end of an arm 15, the arm 15 being held to the extension 12 by means of securing elements l l. The outer end of the arm 15 extends upwardly and is suitably shaped to form a stop 16, adapted to prevent harness or other objects on the arm 15 from sliding therefrom; The upper end of the brace 9 is fashioned into a foot 17 bearlng against the under face of the arm 15 and attached thereto by securing elements 18. The upper end of the tubular guide 9 is continued to form an extension 19. Secured to the extension 19 is'an offset support 20, the support 20 and the extension 19 carrying a shaft 21 on which is j ournaled a sheave 22. An arched casing 23 is secured to the upper end of the support 1 and carries a suspension element 25 upholding a block 21- in which is journaled a sheave 2G. Secured to the upper end of the support 1 is a bracket 39 on which is journaled a grooved guide wheel 27.
A bracket 28 is secured to the rear edge of the support 1, the bracket 28 carrying a shaft 29 on which is mounted to swing a cam 30 adapted to coact with the rear edge of the support 1, the cam 30 including a depending handle 31. Located alongside of the cam 30-31 is a guard strip 32 which is secured to the support 1, the guard strip serving to protect the cam and to prevent the same from being moved accidentally into an unlocked position. 7
The cam 30 is adapted to bind against the support 1, the lower end 33 of an upwardly extended flexible element 34, prolonged across the guide wheel 27 as shown at 35, the flexible element 34 passing over the sheave 26 as shown at 36,}the flexible element being looped as shown about the sheave 22 and the upper end of the flexible element being fixed in any desired manner, the upper end of the flexible element in the present instance being attached as shown at 38 to the pulley block 24-.
In practical operation, the cam is swung to an unlocked position with respect to the end 33 of the flexible element 34:, and by pulling upon the flexible element, or by slacking the same away, the supporting bracket 1598 may be raised and lowered, it being possible to hold the bracket in any desired vertical. position by engaging the cam 30 with the end of the flexible element 34c. Not only is the bracket 8-9-15 free to move vertically for adjustment but, as well, the bracket may be swung laterally, since the guide 8 is j ournaled on the track 3. It is to be observed that the sheave 22 is eccentrically disposed with respect to the track 3. hen the bracket has been raised or .lowered to the desired extent, the bracket may be swung around laterally, as shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings, under which circumstances, one run of the flexible element 34 will be bound between the periphery of the sheave 22 and the support 1. Thus, the bracket may be held temporarily in any desired position of vertical adjustment, while the cam 30 is being tightened up, on the end 33 of the flexible element 3%.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is 1. In a device of the class described, a supporting means; a pulley block carried by the supporting means; a track on the supporting means; a bracket mounted to slide vertically on the track and to rock laterally thereon; a flexible element; a sheave on the bracket, the sheave belng disposed eccenpulley block and around the sheave; means for securing one end of the flexible element permanently; and means for securing the.
other end of the flexible element detachably, the bracket being adapted to swing laterally thereby to bind a portion of the flexible element between the sheave and the support to hold the bracket in an adjusted position while the flexible element is being engaged with the means for holding the flexible element detachably.
2. In a device of the class described, a support; an arched casing assembled with the upper end of the support; a pulley block carried by the crown of the casing; a wheel carried by the top of the support and located adjacent the rear face of the support; a track carried by the forward face of the support; a bracket mounted to slide on the track; a sheave carried by the bracket and located below the casing; a flexible element trained through the sheave, one end of the flexible element being fixed, the other end of the flexible element being trained through the pulley block and across the wheel; and means for holding the last specified end of the flexible element.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto aflixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
JOSEPH J. DOLECHEK.
