Description

P. L.' WEHVHERSKIRSCH HARNESS HOOK.
. APPLICATIDN ElLED SEPT-21, 19]].
Patented Jan. 22, 1918.
Ill
runner... wnriaunsnrnson, or nuances, MINNESOTA.
nannnssitoorn main-ale.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PETER L. Wnnunnsmason, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kellogg in the county of Wabasha and State of Minnesota, have invented new and useful Improvements in Harness-Hooks, of which the followingis a specification.
This invention relates to harness hooks or supports on which a set of harness may be hung. or supported and it has articular reference to an adjustable. hook-which, when a set of harness is hung thereon, maybe raised Or elevated so as to support the harness in an out-of-the-way position at a desirable elevation. v
The invention has for its object to produce a simple and improved guideway and a slide traveling thereon, said slide being equipped with a harness supporting hook, and means being provided whereby the slide may be raised and lowered with respect to the guideway. I i
A further object of the invention is to produce a device of the class described including a counterweight whereby the slide having the hook and the harness supported thereon may be counterbalanced to facilitate the operation.
A further object of the invention is to produce a device of the class described having a counterweight and provided also with a latch device whereby the slide and the harness supported thereon may be secured in a lowered position, the counterweight serving to elevate the related parts upon the release of the latch device.
With these and other ends in view which will readily appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same con sists in the improved construction and novel arrangement and combinatiton of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawing has been illustrated a simple and preferred form of the invention, it being, however, understood that no limitation is necessarily made to the precise structural details therein exhibited, but that changes, alterations and modifications within the scope of the claims may be resorted to when desired.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a front elevation of a device constructed in accordance with the invention.
Fig. 2 is a. vertical sectignal iew taken on the l n 2-2 in Fig? l? specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed September 21, 1917. SerialNo. 192,573-
Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line 3-3 in Fig. 1.
Fig. 4-. is a sectional detail view enlarged of the latch, Corresponding parts in the several figures are denoted by like characters of reference. Referring to the drawings 15 designates a board which constitutes the front wall of a casing 35, said casing including a back wall 36 and brackets 37 on which the lower endiof the board 15 with its base block 17' will be supported. The board 15 is pro vided. at the sides thereof with guide cleats 18' between which is guided a slide 1.9 carrying a harness hook20. Bumpers 21 are arranged adjacent to the upper ends of the guide cleats 18 in the path of the slide 19. Attached to the lide 19 is a bracket 23 can rying a pulley 24. Adjacent to the slot 25 which is formed in the board 15 near the upper end thereof and across which extends a pindle 26 on which pulleys 27, 28 are supported for rotation within the casing 35 is mounted a guide pulley 29. The bracket 24 has an eye 32 with which is connected one end of a flexible hoisting element consisting of a cord 33, said cord being guided successively over the;pulleys,26, 2%,28 and 29 and the other end of said cord being connected with a counterweight 38 which is slidably disposed within the box or casing, the lower end of said casing being open so as not to obstruct the downward movement of the counterweight. The slide 19? is equipped with a pivotally supported latch member 39 having a thumb piece 40, said latch member being adapted for engagement with a catch 41 which may be mounted on the base block 17. Connected with the lide,
19 is a pull rope d2 having a handle 48.
In the operation of the invention the slide 19 may be secured in position at the downward limit of its movement by the interengaging latch 39and catch member 41, the counterweight 38 being then at the upper limit of its movement. While the slide is in this position the harness may be mounted on the hook 20 after which, by releasing the latch 39 from the catch member 41, the weight 38 will gravitate downwardly there by moving the slide 19 and related parts to the upward limit of its movement, it being of course understood that the counterweight 38 must be sufiiciently heavy for this purpose. The upward movement of the slide 19' may be resisted by means of the pull rope 42 thereby avoiding liability of injury to the parts in the event of the counterweight being too heavy as might be the case 'if a very light set of harness is supported on the hook. The pullrope is also utilized. for pullingthe slide carrying the harness in a downward direction when it is desired to remove the harness from the hook.
When harness hooks of ordinaryconstruction are used it iscustomary to mount the same at a considerable distance above the floor. in order to avoid parts of the harness dragging on the floor in the way of preda tory animalsas well as dirt and the like. l/Vhen the hooks are placed sufficiently high on the wall it is frequently difficult to hang a heavy set of harness thereon. By the present invention the harness supporting hook may be arranged at a relatively short distanceabove the ground, enabling the harness to be very conveniently hung thereon, after which the hook carrying the harness may be raised to a sufficient elevation or to any height that may be desired. By the use of the bumpers which are mounted adjacent V to the upper ends of the guide cleats I am Copiesof this patent may be obtained for Iclaim:
1. In a device of the class described, a board having vertical guide cleats at the sides thereof, a supporting block adjacent to, the lower ends of the guide cleats and bumpers adjacent to the upper ends of said cleats, a slide guided between the cleats and having a harness supporting hook, and means including a hoistin clement, guide pulleys over which said hoisting element is trained, a counterweight and a pull-rope whereby said slide and related parts may be raised and lowered, said pull-rope serving also to resist upward movement of the slide under the influence of the counterweight.
2. In a device of the class described, a board having vertical guide cleats at the sides thereof, a supporting block adjacent to the lower ends of the guide cleats and bumpers adjacent to the upper ends of said cleats, a slide guided between the cleats and having a harness supporting hook, and means including a hoisting element, guide pulleys over which said hoisting element is trained, a counterweight and a pull-rope whereby said slide and related parts may be raised and lowered, and interengaging latch and catch members whereby the slide may be secured at the downward limit of its movement in contact with the base block; said pull-rope serving also to resist upward movement of the slide under the influence of the counterweight.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
