To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GEORGE A.=HA'znn- WORTH, a' citizen of the United States, residing at Indianapolis, in the county of Marion and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Molding, of which the following is a specification. a

It IS the object of my invention to provide ,a strong and flexible molding having concealed fastening means; as for use on automobile and other upholstery.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of a fragment of an automobile showing my improved molding applied at the upper edge of the upholstery of the seat back; and Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a fragment of my improved molding, the plane of one of the attaching tacks.

The molding proper consists of a leather core, which in its preferred form is formed of two superposed leather strips a lower core strip 10 and an upper core strip 11; a leather cover strip 12 which incloses the core, in the preferred form extending over the upper core strip 11 and around the edges of the core strips and inward under the lower core strip meeting eneath the lower core strip 10 at about the middle thereof; and a series of fastening tacks 13 the heads 14 of which are located within the leather core and covered thereby, and the shanks of which project from the lower face of the core through the lower core strip 10 and through, the joint between the abutting edges of the cover strip 12 a suflicient distance-from the molding for convenient attachment to the framework, the tack heads 14 in the preferred form of my invention 'beingbetween the lower and upper core strips 10 and 11. The number of 'core strips need notbe two, but the tack heads 14 should be located within the core and covered thereby. .In the form shown, the upper core strip 11 is narrower than the lower core strip 10, and the two core strips are shaped so that whenthe cover strip 12 is put on it produces-a gracefully curved outline, flat at the bottom and convexly curved on top ;.but this shape may be varied as desired, When this molding is used, as around the upper edge of the seat back 15 of an automobile 16 of which a fragment is shown in Fig.

10, the edges of the cover strip their shanks extending through 1, such molding, denoted in its entirety by 17, may be curved as desired, on account of the flexibility of the leather composing it, and when in the desired place may be fastened by driving in the tacks 13. The hammer blows may be struck on the cover strip 12 above the heads 14, and because ofthe cushion formed by the intervening thickness of leather above such heads, furnished by the core strip 11 and the cover strip 12 together, such heads 14 will not ,push through the leather and the hammer blows do not mar the visible surface. Thus the molding can be applied without visible means of fastening. The cover strip 12 may be of .high' quality leather and its outer surface of any desired character and color, to harmonize with the upholstery to which it is applied.

I claim as my invention: 1. An upholstery molding, comprising a a cover strip of leather extending over the top core strip around the edges of the core strips and un der the bottom core strip, and a series of attaching tacks having their heads located be tween the core strips and their shanks extending through the lower core strip.

.2.'An upholstery molding, comprising a plurality of core strips of flexible material, a cover strip of leather extending over the top core strip and around the edges of the core strips and under the and aseries of attaching tacks having their heads located between the core strips and their shanks extending through the lower core strips.

3. An upholstery molding, comprising a plurality ofleathe'r core stripsi a cover strip of flexible material extending over the top core' strip and around the edges of the core strips and under the bottom core strip, and a series of attaching tacks having their heads located between the core strips and the lower core strip.

4. An upholstery molding, comprising a plurality of core strips of flexible material, a cover strip of flexible material extending over the top core strip and around the edges of the core strips and under the bottom core strip, and a series of attaching tacks having their'heads located between the core strips bottom core strip,

two superposed leather core strips, a series of attaching tacks having their heads located between said twocore strips and their shanks projecting through the lower core strip, and a leather cover strip extending over the. upper core strip and being folded around the edges of the core strips and. projecting under the lower core strip toward the series of attaching tacks, so that the edges of said cover strip are below the lower core strip.
