MARIA E. HOLDEN, OF YONKERS, NEYV YORK.
COIEBINED LEMON-SQUEEZER AND FLETCHER-COVER.
Application filed. January 8, 1916.
To all "Lo/Lam it may, concern:
Be it known that I, Tl/TARIA E. HoLnnN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Yonkers, in the county of VVestchester and State of New York, have invented certa n new and useful improvements in Coi'nbined Lemon-Squeezers and PitcherCovers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention such as will enable others srilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in combined lemon squeezers and pitcher covers and the principal object of the invention is to provide a device which is adapted to be used as a cover for a pitcher and upon which it is possible for lemons to be squeezed.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device which is adapted to be made of glass, metal or any other suitable structure.
Still another object of the invention. is to provide a novel means for attaching the squcezer domes in place when the device is constructed of metal to allow the same to be easily and quickly removed for cleaning.
A further and more specific object of this invention is to provide a device which is held against turning on the pitcher on which the same is used.
Vith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts which will be fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a top plan view of a lemon squeezer constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional view on line- 22 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is an edge elevation of the device illustrated in Fig". 1, showing the tongue adapted to hold the same against rotation. Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of a modified form of the invention, and Fig. 5 is a longitudinal sectional view through the matter illustrated in Fig. 4.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates as an entirety the preferred embodiment of my improved lemon squeezer and cover comprising a circular bottom 2 formed with a pairof spaced openings 3 which are covered by the squeezer domes 4, each of which is provided with a plurality ofspaced lugs 5. Formed at the peripheral edges of the body 2 is an annular upturned Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented nine. 15, 1916.
Serial no. 71,000.
flange 6 having formed at its upper periphery the outwardly and downwardly extending flange 7. This retaining flange 7 is pro vided at suitable points with the notches 8 which are adapted to receive the upper edges of the mouth of the pitcher to hold the device firmly in place and avoid the possibility of the same turning with relation to the pitcher.
In the modified form of the invention illustrated in Figs. 4: and 5, the pitcher is provided with a band 9 of suitable metal which is provided with the offset portion 10 for the accommodation of the spout and this band carries a hinge 11 to which the combined squeezer and cover is hingedly connected.
The combined squeezer and cover is designated by the numeral 12 and comprises a. cir cular bottom 18 formed at its periphery with upturned flanges 14. A suitable offset lip 15 is formed integral with the bottom at a point diametrically opposite the hinge connection and the flange 15 surrounds the lip and joins the flange 14 as clearly shown in the drawings. Formed at spaced intervals in the bottom 13 are suitable apertures 17 provided with the inwardly extending screw threaded collars 18 into which the squeezer domes are threaded. The squeezer domes above referred to are designated generally by the numeral 19 and each comprises a dome shaped body 20 provided at its lower edge with asuitable externally screw threaded collar 21 which is adapted to thread into the collars 18 so as to firmly hold the device in place. Each of the bodies 20 is provided with a plurality of spaced lugs 22 formed on the exterior which cooperate with each other in extracting the juice from the fruit. The bottom 13 is formed with a plurality of spaced openings to allow the liquid received in the cover to drop into the pitcher on which the device is used.
It is to be understood that suitable open ings 2 1 are formed in the bottom 2 of the cover 1 and both the openings 23 and 24 are of a size suflicient to permit the liquid or juices from the fruit to flow into the pitcher and yet prevent the possibility of seeds or any of the pulp entering the pitcher.
It will be apparent from the foregoing that in use a cover is provided for the pitchers which will catch the juice of the fruit and which may be easily and quickly cleaned and when the structure illustrated in Figs. 4
and 5 is used, it will be apparent that the squeezer domes may be removed, thereby allowing the user easy and quick access to the various parts for cleaning purposes.
While in the foregoing there has been shown and described the preferred embodiment of this invention, it is to be understood that such changes may be made in the combination and arrangement of parts as will fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claim.
What is claimed is 2- A lemon squeezer comprising a circular body, an upturned flange at a periphery of the body, outwardly and downwardly ex- 15 notches preventing the turning of the body 20 with relation to the pitcher and squeezer domes formed integral with the body.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
