"igg v KIRK I1. HARDING, OF BUCHANAN, SASKATCHEWAN, CANADA.
consnr.
Application filed March 15, 1915.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Mrs. KIRK L. HARD- ING, a subject of the King of England, residing at Buchanan, in the Province of Saskatchewan, Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Corsets; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to corsets.
The object of the invention resides in the provision of an improved construction of corset designed to enhance the comfort and convenience of the wearer.
VJith the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing the invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts in the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a long hip corset constructed in accordance with the invention with certain parts in closed position, and Fig. 2, a view similar to Fig. 1 with certain parts in open position.
Referring to the drawings the improved corset is shown as comprising sections 10 and 11 connected together at their rear edges by a lace 12 engaged through eyes 13 formed in said sections. The inner edge of the section 10 from a point a slight distance below the waist band of the corset to the bottom edge thereof is constituted by a detachable member 141 having secured to its inner face a plurality of hooks 15 adapted to engage respective eyes 16 mounted on the Copies of this patent may be obtained for Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 25, 1916.
Serial No. 14,425.
body of the section 10. The member 14 is provided with a plurality of eyes 17 corresponding to the opposite eyes on the innor edge of the section 11. A lace 18 is en gaged through the eyes 17 and the corre sponding eyes 13 of the section 11. By this construction it will be obvious that the member 1a can be detached from the section 10 and the corset opened at that point without disturbing the lace 18 and can likewise be engaged with the section 10 without disturbing the lace 18 to complete the lower portion of the corset at that point.
\Vhat is claimed is A corset comprising a pair of sections, one of said sections being provided with eyes along its entire rear edge and the other section having a cutaway portion forming a recess opening through the bottom and rear edges thereof, said second named section being provided with eyes along its rear edge from its top to the cutaway portion, a lace engaged through the eyes of the second named section and the corresponding eyes of the other section, a separate member independent of said section and detachably secured thereto along the edge of the recess which extends parallel to the rear edge of said section, the free edge of said member forming a continuation of the rear edge of the second named section and being provided with a series of eyes, a lace engaged through said eyes and through the corresponding eyes of the first named section, hooks on said member, and eyes on the second named section through which the hooks are adapted to be detachably engaged.
In testimony whereof, I afiix my signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
Mrs. KIRK L. HARDING.
