Description

PATENT GFFICE- l DAVID BOGGS AND HERMANN ROHS, OF OYNTHIANA, KENTUCKY.
IMPROVEMENT IN ,HAND-CULTIVATORS.
i Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 119,261, dated September 26, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, DAVID BOGGS and HER- MANN RoHS, of Cynthiana, in the county of Har rison and State of Kentucky, have invented a Hand-Gultivator 5 and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing making a part of this specification, in
which the ligure in the drawing represents a perspective view of the implement.
`Our invention relates to a hand-cultivator, which is designed to supersede the ordinary gardeners-hoe so as to facilitate the cultivation of gardenplants; and consists of a pin for breaking or pulverizing the clods,in combination with two or more prongs terminating into molds forming shovels or hoes, the prongs being provided with a shank for lattaching them to the handle.
A A are the prongs, B B, the shovels or hoes. The prongs are cast or made as represented in the ligure of the drawing, and provided with a shank for attaching it to the handle C, thus forming ahand-cultivator which may be used to a great advantage in the cultivation of garden-plants. D `is the pin, the upper end of which may have a head or not, as may be desired, for a more effectual breaking of the clods. This pin is screwed into the prongs near where the shank enters the handle, and may be removed at any time if it is not desired to use it, its object being, as stated,to crush and thoroughly break the clods.
Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim therein as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The pin D, in combination with the prongs A, constructed and attached to the handle, in the manner and for the purpose as herein shown and described.
As evidence that we claim the foregoing as our invention we have hereunto set our hands in the presence of two witnesses.
