My invention relates to apparatus for burning finely divided fuel, such as pulverized coal and comprises a specialform of feeding device for delivering such pulverized fuel to the combustion chamber of a furnace..
In apparatus of this kind it is customary to employ currents of air to force or blow the finely dividedfuel into the combustion chamber of the furnace, the air being under pressure and serving to bodily transport the fine particles of coal or other solid fuel, to supply the necessary oxygen for combustion and to thoroughly mix the two together so as to facilitate combustion.
In applying apparatus ofl this kind to furnaces already in operation, or in adapting it to the varying conditions met with in installing new furnaces, many different designs have been heretofore required according to the relative positions of the combustion chamber, the air compressor, the fuel supply, etc.
My invention comprises a single, standardized form of apparatus, made from a single set of patterns, but the parts of which are so connected as to be adjustable to meet all conditions,`thereby producing a universal .fuel feeding apparatus which may be manufactured cheaply and in quantity and applied to any furnace, whatever the relative positions of the air and fuel connections rendered necessary by other considerations.
The best form of apparatus, with one modification, embodying my invention, at present known to me, is 'illustrated in the accompanying two sheets of drawings. in which- Figure 1 is a plan view with parts broken away, or shown in section, showingone position, Fig. 2 is a side elevation, Fig. 3 is a rear elevation, and Fig. 4 is a view .similar to Fig. 1, showing a modification.

1, represents the wall of the combustion chamber which is pierced at 31, for the fuel p inlet. 2, is a collar plate fastened to the exterior of the wall around opening 1, as by bolts 3, 3. Plate 2 has an exterior collar or flange 4, into which the inner end of the main section 5 of the air tube fits.` 7, is an exterior, circumferential groove on 5, near its inner endwithin collar 4, and 6, 6, are radial setscrews in collar 4, engaging groove 7. Tubersection 5, has a radial inlet 8, provided with .stuffing box 9, `packing 2,8, andV gland-,29, heldv in position by bolts 30, 30,
or other fastening means, and also thas a bell mouthed flange 10, on. its outer end provided with radial sets'crews 13, 13, which fit intol circumferential groove 12, on the end of air tube elbow 11, Where itis inserted into flange 10. Stuffing box 9,'is preferably mounted on a plate 32, which is fastened to section 5, by bolts 33, 33, and covers opening 8.
A peep hole 14, with pane l5, of mica or othery transparent material is provided in elbow 11, preferably in line with the axis of main section 5, and protected by shutter 40, which may be pivoted at 41, so that it may be swung aside when desired.
16, is a fuel nozzle connected by T-casting 17, to fuel supply pipe 18. The other end of the T is plugged by nut 34.
In assembling the parts composing this form of mv invention, the plate 2, is bolted into position, the tube section 5, inserted intothe c'ollar 4, and fastened into position by setscrews 6, `6, engaging groove 7. The fuel supply pipe 8, with the nozzle 16, 'and the stuffing box 9,`mounted thereon is then inserted through the radial opening 8, and the plate 32 fastened into position to cover said opening. The nozzle V16', then being adjustedl in position and properly centered, the elbow 11,'is inserted in flange 10, and fastened therein by setserews 13, ,13, engaging groove 12. j
In the modification shown in F`ig4, the main air ,tube section 419, has an inclined side inlet 20, with -coupling 21, bolted there-I to. This coupling carries stuffing box 22, similar in constructionrv to stuffing box 9.
The fuel pipe 23, is curved to pass through The fue1 fuel is fed in through the fuel pipe and through the fuel nozzle by a current of air, or other means, and after leavingthe nozzle it is intermingled ivith the larger quantity of air needed for complete combustion supplied'by the air tube. The peep hole and opening in elbow l1, serve as means for observing the combustion, and for afford- .ing access to the fuel nozzle for adjustment,
or cleaning, after removing plug 34.
The advantages of the invention reside 'in the fact that either form may be made in opening, the condition of combustion being produced can be readily observed at any time.
Various changes could be made in the details of construction shown and' described Without departing from the principle of` my invention or materially decreasing Vits resultant advantages so long as the general arrangement hereinbefore set out, by which the main elements are rotatably secured one to another, is preserved.
Having described my invention, I claim:
l. A pulverized fuel feeding device composed of standard elements capable of ad.- justment to suit different angles of connec` tion to air-and-fuel-supply pipes and supplemental-air-supply pipes'having in combination a flanged collar plate adapted to be fastened to a furnace wall, radial set.

2. A pulverized fuel feeding device composed of standard elements capable of adjustment to suit different angles of connection to air-and-fuel-supply pipes and supplemental-air-supply pipes having in combination a flanged collar plate adapted to be fastened t0 a furnace wall. radial set screws in said collar, a main tubular sec- `tion adapted to be inserted in said collar and grasped by said setscrews, provided with a side opening and with a bell mouthed flange at its outer end, radial setscrews in said bell mouthed flange, an elbow section adapted to be inserted vin said bell mouthed flange and grasped by said setscrews, and a fuel feeding pipe passing through said side opening, said elbow section being provided with a peephole in line with the interior of the main section.
3. A pulverized fuel feeding device having in combination a main tubular section with a side inlet, means for rotatably securing said section to a furnace Wall, a plate detachably fastened to said tubular section over said side opening, a stuffing box carried by said plate. a fuel feeding pipe 'passing through saidl stufling box, an air supply connection and means for rotatably securing the same to the rear end of the main tubular section. y
