TOILETSEAT. APPLICATION FILED DEC. 3. I914.

TOILET-SEAT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 4, 1916.
Application filed December 3, 1914. Serial No. 875,316.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GUY A. WILSON, citizen of the United States, residing at Salt Lake City, in the county of Salt Lake and State of Utah, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toilet Seats, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in toilet seats and has for its object the provision of a toilet seat constructed of sheet metal properly shaped and stiffened and so arranged that a plurality of said seatsmay be nested one within another while mounted in position for use whereby certain advantages hereinafter set forth are achieved.
In the accompanying drawing: Figure 1 is a plan view of a toilet seat embodying the invention with the cover removed, Fig.'2\ is a transverse sectional view upon -l1ne 2 2 of Fig. 1 with the cover removed, Fig. 3 is a partial longitudinal sectional view upon line 3-3 of Fig. 1 with the cover removed and'FigAL is a sectional view illustrating a metal seat applied to one of the wood seats ordinarily employed.
Like numerals designate corresponding parts in the several figures of the drawing.
Referring to the drawing it will be seen that the invention residesin providing a plurality'of pressed sheet metal toilet seats indicated at A, B and C, which seats are nested one within another as shown. Preferably these seats, together with a cover or lid D, also of sheet metal, are hinged to the closet bowl 5 by hinges indicated at 6.
7 Several important advantages are had by forming these seats of sheet metal. Among them may be mentioned the fact that these seats will not warp, check or crack as is the case with the wooden seats commonly employed. The metal seats may be finished up in imitation of wood orin any desired ornamental manner and present fully as attractive an appearance as the wooden seats. Furthermore the metal seats are more sanitary than the wooden seats, they are unbreakable, they are not affected by moisture,
they are fireproof and they are far more economical than the wooden seats.
Aside from the advantages above outlined further important advantages reside in providing the plurality of nested metal seats as shown. By referring to Fig. 2 it will be/seen that each seat comprises a body portion 7, an outer edge stiffening Wall 8, an inner edge wall 9 and the usual central opening 10. In the present instance I prefer to make these central openings 10 of varying sizes as shown to adapt the seat C to the use of a child and the seats B and A to larger persons. It is apparent that as many of these seats may be provided as is considered necessary to accommodate the various-members of a family. Or Where the family is a family of adults the openings in all of the seats may be of nearly the same size and the plurality of seats .be provided for the purpose of furnishing an individual seat for each member of the family. N If desired one of these metal seats may be applied to the wooden seats already in use as illustrated in Fig. 4. 11 indicates the wooden seat and 12 the metal shell applied thereto. Preferably the terminal edges of the various seats are stiffened by being rolled over as indicated at 14.
While the elements set forth are well adapted to serve the purposes for which they are intended it is to be understood that the invention .is not limited to the precise construction shown but that it includes within its purview such changes as properly come within the. spirit of the appended claims or may be fairly said to be equivalent to what is set forth therein.
Having described my invention what I claim is The combination with a closet bowl having' a plane upper face'at the rear thereof,
