WEANING-BIT.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Jun 2Q, 1916.
Application filed October 16, 1915. Serial No. 56,255. Y 7
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. ALBERT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hartford City, in the county of Blackford and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Weaning- Bits, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention has for its primary object a novel and useful construction of weaning bit for animals, the parts being so constructed and arranged that they may be very easily and cheaply manufactured and readily assembled and adjusted, according. to the size of the animals mouth.
A further object of the invention is a weaning bit which will permit the animal to drink without any discomfort and which will at all times be kept in a sanitary condition. And the invention also aims to generally improve devices of this class so as to render them more useful and commercially desirable.
With these and other objects in view, as will more fully appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain constructions, arrangements and combinations of the parts that I shall hereinafter more fully describe and claim.
For a full understanding of the invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in whichi Figure 1 is a perspective view of my device as applied. Fig. 2 is an elevation thereof, and Fig. 3 is a sectional view showing the manner in which the bit may be varied in width, as required. I
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and designated in all of the views of the accompanying drawing by like reference characters.
My improved bit comprises two curved tubular sections 1 and 2 open from end to end and secured together at one end in an adjustable manner, whereby the bit may be varied in size, according to the size of the animals mouth to which it is applied. In
the present embodiment of the invention, the tubular sections have a sleeve 3 secured thereto in any desired way, and each end of the sleeve 3 is interiorly threaded, as at 4, to receive the exteriorly threaded ends 5 of the sections. The cross bar of the bit which, in the present instance, is formed by the adjoining ends of the tubular sections land 2,
and the intermediate sleeve 3, is formedwith any desired number of orifices 6, these orifices being of any desired size and number, there being three in the present instance, one in each of the tubular sections and one in the sleeve, although it isto be understood that the invention is not limited in this regard.
In order to secure the bit in place and hold 1t 1n the animals mouth, each one of the sections is provided with loop straps 7 preferably of metal, soldered or otherwise secured thereto, and in each of the straps is a ring 8.
From the foregoing description in connection with the accompanying drawing, the
operation and advantages of my improved weaning bit will be apparent. By having the parts adjustably connected together, the bit may be varied in size, as hereinbefore stated, to fit the animals mouth, and by having the bit hollow throughout with turned ends and with the orifices .6 above specified, the animal can drink without any discomfort, as the water may be sucked up into the bit through both ends of the same, while at the same time the water passing through the bit, in the act of drinking, will cleanse the bit out and it will thus be maintained at all times in a thoroughly sanitary condition.
While the'accompanying drawing illusthe cross bar of the bit being formed with for adjustably connecting said sections together, the cross bar of the bit being formed with orifices.
2. As a new-article of manufacture, the herein-described weaning bit, comprising complemental tubular sections, a sleeve adjustably connecting said sections together,
orifices, and bridle or halter engaging rings secured to the bit.
In testimony whereof I- hereunto affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
WVILLIAM H. ALBERT. Vitnesses:
CARLETON A. WRIGHT, ELMER R. TUTROW.
