Specification of Letters I'Patent. PatentedgJu'ne 1.3, 1916.
Application filed November 24, 1909. i Serial No. 529,794. y
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, VERNE R. SHATTUCK, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York, county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in vControlling-Sheets, which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates more particularly to an inventory or similar sheet in which the extensions or sum total may be absolutely controlled.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a sheet having a part thereof adapted to be detached therefrom and which is similar to a part of the main body of the sheet to adapt the sheet to have the amounts extended by different parties so that a mistake or error from any cause whatever may be readily ascertained.
Another object of the invention is to provide a simple and eliicient sheet which may be used to control invoices or inventories or for other purposes and which serves as an absolute check to prevent mistakes or errors.
A further object of the invention is to provide means which may be used as single sheets or which may be bound in book form.
With these and other objects in view, the invention will be hereinafter more particularly described with reference to the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of this specification and will then be pointed out in the claim at the end of the description.
In the drawing, the figure represents an elevation of one form of sheet embodying my invention, and shows the same as particularly adapted for taking inventories.
The sheet 10 has its main body portion 11 divided into a plurality of columns and has a part or member 12 detachably connected to the main body portion 11, as by a line of perforations 13 or in any other desired Way.
The body of the sheet may have certain characters at the upper part thereof, as at 14, to indicate the department, the name of the party by whom the entries are made, and other identifying features at one side thereof, as at 15, and at 16 other identifying characters as by whom checked, by whom examined, and by whom the extension was made, etc. The body 11 of the sheet is divided into a plurality ofcolumns under the part 14 for the description of the goods,
quantity and price,-and a columnr17 for the extension or amount. v l
The member or stub 12 isintended to have the extension of the amounts placed thereon by the party'first handling the sheet similar to the extension in the column 17 and the upper part thereof, as at 18, may have suitable identifying characters similar to that: indicated on the part 111 together with the page number, so that when the stub 12 is detached,it may be easily identified with the sheet of which it originally formed a part. The entries are made with the stub or member 12 as a part of the sheet, and the entries are made on the stub by the sameperson or personswho make the entries on the body, except the extension in the column 17. After the entries are made on the stub or member 12 said stub is then detached for filing or other purposes, and the extension in the column 17 is then made by a different person. After the entries on the sheet with stub removed are completed the extension of the member 12 and the extension in the column 17, which were made by dierent persons and at different times, are compared and if they agree there is very little chance of a mistake having been made, but in case a mistake or error occurs either in the sum total or as to the individual items, this will be readily ascertained for the extension in the column 17 must correspond with the original extension on the stub 12 if there is no error.
It willbe understood that the sheet may be used for invoices or for other purposes and correspondingly changed to suit the particular requirement, and it will be further understood that the stub or member 12 Y may be as wide and may have as many columns as desired.
From the foregoing it will be seen that simple and eicient means is provided whereby a mistake or error is readily ascertained; that by providing a stub or detachable member, the entries lof which are made by different persons and at di'erent times, the liability of a mistake is reduced to a minimum, and that by providing a sheet of the character described various kinds of entries may be made to adapt the sheet for different purposes.
Having thus described my invention, I
vclaim as new and desire'to secure by Letters the body portion, said stub and body portion each having a space for the sum total of all l5 items, whereby the sheet is adapted to have two extensions made by different persons, and'one extension may be removed with the stub before the other is made.
This Specification signed and witnessed 20 this 4.- day of November, A. D. v1909.
