Specification of Letters Patent.
Application led December 29, 1914. Serial No. 879,523.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE L. RICE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia'J and State of Pennsylvania, have nvented new and useful Improvements 1n Music-Roll Cabinets, of which the followin is a specification. l
he invention relates to music cablnets,
`11: and more especially to the class of music roll cabinets. I I
The primary object of the invention 1s the provision of a cabinet of this character wherein the music rolls used in player pianos can be conveniently held therein so that any one of the same is readily accessible for use,
the music rolls when placed in the cabinet will be held in a novel manner so as to avoid the unwinding of the music sheetfrom the roll, and at the same time they will be protected from dust or climatic changes, which affects the paper from which the sheet 1s made.
Another object of the invention 1s the provision of a cabinet of thls character wherein the construction thereof is of novel form so that the music rolls may be arranged in order, thus making it convenient for the use of any one of the rolls. v
A further object of the inventlon 1s the provision of a cabinet of this character which is extremely simple in construction, reliable and efficient in its purpose, neat and attractive in appearance, and inexpensive in manufacture.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as Will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and polnted out in the claim hereunto appended.
In the drawings Figure l is a perspective view of a cabinet constructed in accordance with the invention, showing one dool` open and one of the holders for the music roll pulled out. Fig. 2 is a perspectlve View of one of the holders or drawers for the music roll. Fig. 3 is a fragmentary horizontal sectional view through the cabinet. Fig. 4 is a vertical transverse sectional v iew through the cabinet. Fig. 5 1s a vertical transverse sectional view through the music roll holder showing the music roll therein. Fig. 6 is a fragmentary side elevation of the guide for the music roll holder or drawer.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several vlews 1n the drawings.
Referring to the drawings in detail, A deslgnates a casing Which constitutes the body of the music roll cabinet having the legs B and front Swingin doors C, so that access may be had to the mterior thereof.
Within the casing or body A is positioned a support for the music roll drawer or holders and comprises a front plate or wall 10 which 1s arranged vertically within the caslng or bodY A and disposed spaced from the doors at the front thereof, the said plate or front Wall 10 being formed with spaced rows of suitable openlngs for receiving slidable drawers or holders for the music rolls, each including a semi-cylindrical tray portion 11, front and rear circularshaped ends 13 and 14, respectively, united to or integral with the tray 11, while formed on the rear end wall 14 is a depending guide lug 15 having a slot 16 for receiving a guide bar or rail 17 provided with a threaded forward end 18 and a rounded opposite rear end 19 for the detachable fastening thereof in the support for the drawers or holders of the music rolls in a manner presently described.
Located rearwardly of the front Wall or plate 10 of the music roll support are superposed substantially U-shaped frames 20, which are arranged horizontally in their vertical spaced relation to each other and through which are passed the guide bars or rails 17, the threaded ends 18 of which detachably engage in internally threaded bosses 21 formed on the inner face of the wall or plate 10 below the openings therein, while the rear ends 19 of the said bars or rails 17 are inserted in openings 22 correspondingly shaped thereto and formed in the frames 2O which are suitably Xed within the casing or body A of the cabinet, and these bars or rails 17 serve to guide the music roll drawers when being opened or closed.
Formed on the front ends 13 of the drawers or holders for the music rolls are hand knobs 23 so that they can be manually pulled out or pushed in the support therefor within the cabinet.
Fixed in the bottom of the trays 11 of the music roll holders or drawers at an intermediate point thereof are resilient clips 24 which are adapted to engage the music sheet or strip of the music roll when wound Patented May 23, 1916.. .l
U and placed within the drawer so as to prevent the unwinding of the music strip or sheet fromits roll while at rest within the said drawer, yet the music roll can be readily removed from the drawer on the pulling of the same outwardly from its support for use in a player piano as usual.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and .manner of use of the device will be clearly understood, and therefore a more extended explanation has been omitted.
What is claimed isz- In a device of the class described, in combination a casing, a frame secured to said casing and having openings, a front wall fitting snugly in said casing and formed with a plurality through said openings, said slides each conof. openings, slides movable sisting of a tray portion having a. lug at its rear end with a rectangular opening in the lug, bosses on said wall projecting forwardly thereof, a plurality of rods threaded into said bosses at one end, said rods having rectangular ends passing snugly through said openings in the lugs and havin their terminals received in the openings 1n said frame, whereb to support the rear ends of said slides, said slides resting at their forward ends upon the edges of the wall open? ings and end plates on said slides closing the wall openings and having handles whereby said slides may be operated.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
