MAGAZINE ROLL HOLDER AND FEEDER Filed April 17, 1953 INVENTOR ATTORNEYS United States Patent MAGAZINE ROLL HOLDER AND FEEDER Carl J. Bonsignore, Kansas City, Mo.
Application April 17, 1953, Serial No. 349,454
2 Claims. (Cl. 24255.3)
My invention relates to a roll holder and feeder of a magazine type, for holding and feeding successive rolls of paper, such as toilet paper so that exhausted rolls may be replaced quickly.
An object of the invention is to provide a novel, simple and practical roll holder in which a supply or plurality of rolls are supported one upon the other in guideways at each end and fed upwardly to position for use in tearing off sheets therefrom.
Another object is to provide novel and simple means for raising the superimposed rolls to move the uppermost roll into position for use.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent as the description proceeds and the novel construction, 'combination and arrangement of parts pointed out, but it is to be understood that changes and modifications may be resorted to within the scope of the claimed invention without departing from the principles and spirit thereof.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a toilet paper or other roll holder and feeder embodying my invention.
Figure 2 is a vertical section.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary perspective view showing a roll guideway, and
Figure 4 is an enlarged fragmentary horizontal section taken on the line 4-4 of Figure 2.
Referring to the drawings in detail, my roll holder and feeder for toilet paper rolls or otherwise, is composed of a cabinet of rectangular shape adapted to be anchored to a suitable support which may be a wall W having a recess P into which the cabinet is fitted. The cabinet 10 has a back or inner rear wall 11, sides 12, top 13 and bottom 14. The side, top and bottom walls are provided with a surrounding outwardly extending flange 15, which abuts wall W and is secured thereto by suitable fastenings 16. Front Wall or panel 17 has an opening 18 across the same.
Near the bottom 14, a horizontal partition 19 is provided forming a compartment or pigeon hole 20 open at the front for suitable toilet or other accessories. Near the top is a horizontal shelf 21 forming a compartment with top 13 to receive a drawer or ash tray 22 having a flanged front 23 to engage around an opening in front panel 17, and having a pull handle 24.
Thus, a large intermediate compartment 25 is provided between partitions 19 and 21 accessible through the front opening 18 in the front panel 17. The sides 12 are provided with guideways or slots 26, which may be depressed or set in from the sides 12, extending vertically intermediately between the front 17 and back 11 from points spaced from the bottom of compartment 25 or partition 19 to points about midway of the height of opening 18, where they are curved forwardly and downwardly at 27, with forwardly extending automatic feeder portions 28 slightly inclined downwardly, and each having a vertical raised upper entrant open portion or slot 29 which may be set back or spaced from the front ends of portions 28. By this means, the ends or spindles S set in the cores C of rolls R such as rolls of toilet paper may be slid or dropped into the entrant openings 29 by passing the rolls through opening 18. The rolls are then pushed back up and along guideway portions 28 to drop down into portions 26 to the bottom thereof with the rolls R resting on one another as seen in Figure 2 to form a supply of a plurality of rolls of any number depending upon the depth or length of the vertical guideways 26 and compartment 25.
As shown in Figure 2, in order to feed the rolls R one at a time to dispensing position at the front of guideway portions 28 after a roll has been dispensed or exhausted by tearing oif same, a flexible web or belt 30 is anchored at one end as at 31 to the upper shelf support or partition 21 near the back in rear of drawer or tray 22. It then extends loosely downwardly in back and under the rolls R in guideways 26 at the sides of the compartment 25 of cabinet or casing 10. The opposite end of the belt or web 30 is extended upwardly in front of the rolls in guideways 26 and over a horizontal support or restraining member or through a guide slot or elongated slotted sleeve or grommet 32 extending across the width of the compartment 25 through the front wall or removable panel 17 below opening 18 and provided with a pull knob or handle 33. Thus, it will be noted that end 31 is above the roll R in dispensing position and higher than same, slot 32 and knob 33, so that upon pulling out on the free end of the belt or web 31, the rolls R will be raised in the guideways 26 until the top roll passes around the curved portions 27 and rolls forwardly by gravity in portions 28 to the front ends thereof beyond the vertical entrant portions or slots 29. Upon releasing or slackening the pull on the knob 33 and flexible web or belt 30, the remaining rolls R will drop back down the vertical guideways 26 to the bottom thereof. While only two rolls R are shown in the magazine section of the device at guideways 26, the device may be made long or high enough to accommodate and hold any desired number of rolls as a supply ready for use when necessary without running out of rolls when the top one is exhausted and avoiding the obvious inconvenience thereof.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. A roll holder and feeder including opposed vertical guideways closed at the bottom and having upper end portions extending forwardly, and means for raising a roll in the guideways to move into said upper end portions comprising a web anchored above the guideways in back of the roll, extending under. the roll and upwardly and outwardly to move over a support at the front below said upper end portions.
2. A roll holder and feeder as defined in claim 1, wherein said raising means is free of the guideways and rolls and comprises a flexible member anchored at one end in back of said upper portions and movable at the other end through a guide slot in front below said upper portions, and a pull member on said other end restrained from moving inwardly through said slot.
