Serial No. 80,010.
The body 1 is provided with an arcuute fold line 7 adjacent and parallel with its outer curved edge, and providing a lip 8 which is bent upwardly when the body is folded into conical form, to thereby proi'ide an annular trough at the lower edge of the cone.
The outer surface of the body 1 is provided adjacent and approximately parallel with its edges and ends, with a strip 10 of a, dry substance of any suitable sort, and within the outline of said strip 10, the outer surface of the body is provided with a sticky substance 1'1 which is prevented from running over ihc boundary defined by the strip 10. The suh'sliuncc may be the some as orduuir used on iiy paper, or can be of such :1 nature that when lhe some cools, it scts or l'uirdens, and when it is sul' jected to the hcal of the lump, it will soften and hecome sticky. This is convenient, since when the lamp is extinguished, the sticky substance will set or harden when there is no light to attract the insects.
Projecting from the end 5 of the body 1,
said body is provided with :1 tab 9 adjacent the outer curved edge thereof, and when the body is folded into conical form. the tab 9 can he ousted to the inucr side, of the oppositc end of the lip 8, to assist in holding the body in shape, and to also assist in closing the trough, to prcvcui leakage. This trough will catch any of the sticky substance which might llow downwuully. and will also catch dead insects.
'lhc hody 1 has :1 series of apertures 12 adjacent and parallel with the inner edge of the body, and preferably arranged in thc inner portion of the strip 10, and said apertur permit the hot air to rise out of the device when it is applied to the lump. Thus, the air c n circulate within thedcvice, to prevent the em sire heating thereof.
The inner suriuce of the body 1, and the outer surface of the. lip when the device is in completed form, can be used as advertising spaces, and advertising matter can be upplied to other parts of the device if desired. Any advertising mutter upon the inner S'H'fi face of the device will he rcaduhlc whcn thc lamp is lighted, and the device thcrci'orc serves as an advertising; medium in addition to its capacities as a lamp shade, and insect catcher. The inner surface of the devicecan be whiic, or can no tinted to soften the light dctleoted i hen the device n completed form. he pening 2 at the apex is adapted to receive the socket 13 an electric lamp ll. wherehy the device acts as a shade for said lamp, to protcct the eyes from the intense light and to concentrate or focus the light. Further more. when the lamp is lighted, the insert attracted thereby in alig' hling upon the (h rice. will he caught thtwehy, SiZMO the ii eete will he entangiwil hy the sticky eulwzanei: it and ("annot escape. As above intin'zatitl. it is preferable to proviile rsuih stink Suhstanee which will harden when cooled. so that when the lamp is extinguished. the sul) stunt/e ll will set to prevent stray objects f sticking thereto when the lamp is not lighted. The ends of the body 1 can he fastened together by means of the tongues or Clips l. and tab 5 or can be otherwise secured together, such as by means of paste, or other suitable fasteners.
In Fig. l. the device is illustrated as being applied to an oil lamp. in which case suitable Wire hooks or other elements 2.4 are attached to IliO inner edge or upper end of the l)()tl)' 1, to engage the upper end of the lamp -himney 15.
\Vher the device shipped from the tartory or transported. either singrl; or in lots. the blank is prellrahlr ilouhleii on an inter nediate told line it? l'etween the entls of the bod 1, whereby the two halves of the body overlap or l'ohl together. The halves of the strip 10 register with one another, Emil troneeal the Substance 11 therein, whereby the final form by hri together and semi 1h *1. folded up in the i'iseantiin trough.
