.ltpplication riled December 2 '0 aZZ who-m will may concern lie it known that l, Uorrrr li ll lrnns, a citizen ot the United States, residing; at Quincy, county of t.d.arns, and iiltate of 5 Illinois, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Ventilatinp; Means for Chicken l ...overs and Breeders, of which the :lollowing is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements 1 in chicken hovers, particularly to the ventilating means therefor, and it is the principal object of the invention to provide a hover permitting' the exhaust of the :tcul hot air at the top without creating}; a dannerous draft which is apt to injure the chickens.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a novel ventilator tor hovers closed on top and bottom which. cl a so simple and inexpensive construction, allowing; a ready a ii'plication to a hover or remo-val therefrom, and which appears to produce an ellicient ventilation without in any way endangering the lives of the chickens.
@ther objects end advantages of my invention will become more fully known as the description. thereof proceeds, and will then be specifically pointed out in the ap pended claim.
in the accompanying drawing}; forming; a
material part out my disclosure:
Figure 1 is an axial ser ioual view of a hover equipped with a ventilator constructed according to the present invention and adapted to be heated.
Figure 2 a top plan view oi? the ventilator; and
.lligure 3 is a section throiurh the same on line 3-3 of Figure 2.
4-0 here shown the body oi": the hover is made up of a conical. housing; l. which. may he of sheet metal and supported at a suitable distance above the ground by legs 2 torined oi? double metal straps riveted. at
Serial No. 343,344.
their ends to the housing 1. A circular aperture formed in the upper end of the housing and a ventilating member 3 fits snugly in said aperture. This ventilating ineinljier comprises a frusto-conical hollow casing; having a peripheral rib l which rests upon the top edge of the housing. A. series of apertures 5 are formed in the casing below the rib and in communication with the interior of the casing, and a second series oi. apertures (S are formed in the casing above the rib and in communication with the outer air. 'lhe casing; has a closed bottom and top, a handle 7 being secured to the latter wh ueby it may be lifted when desired.
Heating means for the hover are generally indicated at 8 and may be of any desired type supplied with fuel from any source of heat as for instance an oil burner or the like.
The operation ot the device will be obvious from the above description thereof, the hot and foul air collecting under the root ot the hover will escape through the openings 5 and 6 in the ventilator and as the same is closed on top and bottom, no
draft will be created by the operation of the ventilator which would injure the chickens.
ltlaving g thus described my invention what it claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, of the United States is as fol.- lows in a device of the character described, a roof with a circular opening in it, a ventilator comprising a. trusto-conical hollow casinghaving an exterior encircling rib between the upper and lower ends thereof for supporting; it in said openine, the side wall o? said casin having openings formed therein above and below said rib, and a handle for said ventilator.
in testimony whereof l have aTliXed my gna'ture.
