Patented May 2, 1916.
Application filed September 4, 1915. Serial No. 49,101.
To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I, HOWARD HULBERT,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Excelsior, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented new and useful Improvementsin Rain-Coats, of which the following is a'specification.
This invention relates to personal wear garments and more particularly to rain coats.
It is the principal object of the invention to provide a rain coat having means for conducting the water off of the same at points where the dripping will not damage the trousers or other garments worn beneath the rain coat and to also provide a device of'this character which will be neat in appearance and inexpensive to manufacv ture.
' Further objects of the invention will appear as the following specific description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this application, and in which Figure 1 is a rear elevation. Fig. 2 is a a side elevation. Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2. Fig.
4 is a horizontal section taken on the line 44 of Fig. 2 showing the flaps in open position.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, 1 represents an ordinary rain coat provided at its lower endwith an inverted Q plait or tuck 2 which inclines on an angle from each side of the garment to its apices in the center of the back and in the front of the garment as shown at 3 and 4, respectively, The tuck is secured with heavy cord or other similarpacking material indicated at 5 so as to cause the tuck to flare outwardly from the garment and troughs 6 which-lead from the front and back of the garment to the center of each side where her of a head and-socket fastener or other similar fastening device 9 by which the free end of the flap may be fastened to the gen ment when not in use. The flanges in effect, form a trough 10 which constitutes a lateral continuation of the trough 6. The tuck is omitted in the center of the flaps so as to permit of communication with the trough 10 whereby water running down the trough 6 would readily enter said trough 10 and be discharged laterally at both sides ofthe garment and away from the feet of the wearer.
What is claimed is 1. A rain coat com rising a body portion having inverted tuc inclined .from the lower side edges to their apices in the center of the front and back and hinged troughlike flaps connected to the garment at the lowest portions of the tuck.
2. A rain coat comprising a body portion having inverted tucks extending from the lower marginal edge of the garment to points above the lower marginal edge in the- J. G. STEENSON, A. O. Coanwmm.
