To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JAMEs F. PAYNE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Nose-Bags, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements 1n nose bags.

In nose bags as usually constructed the food receptacle comprises two metal end members to the peripheries of which are permanently secured respectively opposite edges of a canvas cloth. The canvas cloth soon wears out thus destroying the further usefulness of the bag.-

One of the objects of my invention is to provide a nose bag of the type referred to with a readily detachable canvas cloth or other sheet of flexible material, which may be readily replaced by a new sheet, thereby extending the period of usefulness of the nose bag, and at a slight expense.

Another object of my invention is to provide a nose bag which is simple in construction, economical to manufacture, is strong in construction, and which is sanitary, the flexible sheet being readily removable for the purpose of cleansing.

The novel features of my invention are hereinafter fully described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawing, which illustrates the preferred embodiment of my invention, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved nose bag shown supported by a head stall. Fig. 2 is an elevation of one of the end members. Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view of one of the end members. Fig. 4 is an enlarged vertical sec tional view of the food receptacle. Fig. 5 is a cross section of the flexible sheet shown formed in the shape in which it is used. Fig. 6 is a plan view of the flexible sheet and wires mounted therein shown in flat form.

operate with the end members 1 to form a food receptacle' Secured to the sheet 5 re spectively adjacent to its opposite longitudinal edges are two wires 6, which are preferably interlaced or threaded through the sheet as shown in Fig. 6.

Each end member 1 is provided with an arcuate peripheral flange 7, preferably turned inwardly at the outer side of the end member so as to form an arcuate groove 8 adapted to receive one longitudinal edge of the sheet 5 and the wire 6 adj acent thereto. Each plate 1 adjacent to its upper edge and in the middle portion thereof is provided with a hole 9, which is adapted to receive therethrough the adjacent end of the cord 3, as shown in Fig. 1.

In assembling the parts, the sheet 5 and wires 6 are given the arcuate form shown in Fig. 5, after which the opposite edges of the sheet 5, and the wires 6 are mounted in the grooves 8. The inner edges of the flanges 7 may then be turned inwardly toward the bodies of the members 1, so as to releasably hold the wires 6, and thereby the adjacent edges of the sheet 5, from withdrawal from the grooves 8.

In case that the flexible strip 5 requires to be cleaned, or in case that it becomes so worn as to be useless, the turned in edges of the flanges 7 may be forced outwardly by inserting thereunder a suitable instrument. The wires 6 and sheet 5 may then be removed from the grooves 8, after which the sheet may be cleansed or another one substituted therefor, provided with the wires 6, and mounted in the groove 8 in the manner already described. The flanges 7 may then be pinched inwardly at one or more points or throughout their entire length, so as to releasably and securely retain the sheet 5 engaged with the end members 1. By having the flanges 7 at the outer sides of the end members 1, the pull of the flexible sheet- 5, in use, serves to force the wires 6 tightly into the grooves 8, and prevents the accidental detachment of the sheet from the end members.

I do not limit my invention to thestructure shown and described, as modifications, within the scope of the appended claims, may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention.

What I claim is 1. In a nose bag, two end members adapted to be supported by a head stall and provided each on its outer side with an inwardly turned arcuate flange which forms a peripheral groove, a sheet of flexible material adapted to cooperate with the end members to form a food receptacle, opposite edges of the sheet being respectively mounted in said grooves, and two wires threaded longitudinally through the sheet adjacent to the respective opposite edges thereof and respectively mounted in said grooves for releasably holding the sheet in said grooves.

In a nose bag, two end members adapted to be supported by a head stall and provided each on its outer side with an arcuate inwardly turned peripheral flange which forms a groove, a sheet of flexible material adapted to form with the end members a food receptacle, opposite edges of the sheet being respectively mounted in said grooves, and two wires secured to the sheet adjacent respectively to said opposite edges and mounted in the grooves respectively, the flanges having their inner'e'd'ges turned toward the bodies respectively of the end members at the inner sides of said wires so as to retain the wires in the grooves.

3. In a nose bag, two end members provided each at its periphery and on its outer side with an arcuate inwardly turned flange forming a peripheral groove, a sheet of flexible material cooperating with the end members to form a food receptacle, opposite edges of the sheet being respectively mounted in said groove, and two wires respectively mounted in said grooves and interlaced through said sheet for releasably holding the sheet in said grooves.
