Description

F. HOFFMAN.
COMBINED GARMENT HAN GERL APPLICATION FILED JULY 24.1915
Patented Apr. 25, 1916.
FRANZIES HOFFMAN,
0F PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA.
COMBINED GARMENT-HANGER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 25, Mild.
Application filed July 24, 1915. Serial No. 41,672.
citizen of the United States, residing at Pittsburgh, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Garment-Hangers, of which the following is a specification. i
This invention relates to a comblned garment hanger and stretcher and has for ts object to provide a device of such class including means, in a manner as heremafter set forth, for stretching a pair of trousers and further including means, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, connected with said stretching means for supporting a coat.
A further object of the invention 1s to provide What may be termed a combined garment stretcher and coat hanger which 1s simple in its construction and arrangement, strong, durable, eilicient and convenient to use, readily set up and comparatively 1neX- pensive to manufacture.
"With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter more specifically described and illustrated in the accompanylng drawings, wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which come within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.
In the drawings wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views :-Figure 1 is a front elevation of a combined garment hanger and stretcher in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a sideelevation. Fig. 3 is a sectional detail on line X-Qi, Fig. 1, looking in the direction of the arrow. Fig. A is a sectional detail on line-Y-Y, Fig. 1, looking in the direction of the arrow.
Referring to the drawings in detail the device includes a,pair of elongated inverted U-shape members'A, B, and the legs of the member A are indicated at 1 and the legs of the member B at 2. The legs 1 of the member A have their free ends bent outwardly as at 3. The bend of the member A is indicated at A and the bend of the member B is indicated at 5.
The legs 1 of the member A are connected to the legs 2 of the member B by elastic elements 5, 6, which are in the form of springs of compound curvature. The elements 5 are secured to the members A, B, at the lower end of the said legs 1, 2, and the elements 6 are arranged between the members A, B, at the upper ends thereof. The elements 5 are of less length than the elements 6 and the said elements 5, 6 have a tendency to force the members A, B, apart.
The members A, B, and springs 5, 6, provide a stretcher for the legs of a pair of trousers and one legl of the member A and that leg 2 of the member B which is connected to the said leg 1 of the member A are adapted to be inserted down through the leg of a pair of trousers and said legs 1, 2, thereof, in connection with the elements 5, 6 stretch the trouser leg. The other leg 1 of the member A and the other leg 2 of the member B are employed for stretching the other trouser leg.
As the legs of the member A are connected to the legs of the member B by the resilient or elastic elements 5, 6, it is obvious that the legs 1, 2, can be pressed toward each other when inserting them in the legs of the trousers and after pressure is released upon the legs 1, 2, of the members A, B, they have a tendency to spring apart due to the elements 5, 6, and under such conditions stretch the trouser legs.
The bend A of the member A has secured thereto a sleeve 7 and the bend 5 of the mem ber B has secured thereto a sleeve 8. The sleeves 7, 8, constitute coupling devices for connecting a coat hanger or support and the trouser stretcher and the said coat hanger or support is formed from a single length of wire of suitable diameter so when shaped the hanger or support will possess the necessary rigidity and the said hanger or support consists of a body portion 9 inclined in opposite directions with respect to each other and provided centrally with a loop 10. The body portion 9 at each end terminates in a depending ti-shape arm 11 which is outwardly inclined with respect to the members A, B, and each of said arms 11 terminates in a curved arm 12, the latter merging into a rearward extension 13 which is positioned in the coupling members 7, 8, whereby the support is coupled with the members A, B, of the stretcher.
The coat hanger or support is positioned centrally with respect to the members A, B, and the said loop 10 provides means for supporting the combined garment hanger and stretcher from a nail or hook.
Then using the garment support or hanger the arms 11 are inserted in the arms of the garment'and the shoulders of the garment are positioned upon the body portion 9 of the support.
What I claim is I 1. A device of the class described comprising a pair of elongated inverted U-shaped members opposing each other, said members inclining outwardly with respect to each other from their lower to their upper ends, a pair of springs of compound curvature connecting the lower ends of the legs of one member to the lower ends of the legs of the other member, a spring of compound curvature, oppositely disposed with respect-t0 said pair of springs, and interposed between and connected to the upper ends of said members centrally thereof, said springs at the upper ends of said members being of greater length than the springs of the lower ends and said springs normally tending to shift said members away from each other.
2. A device of the class described comprising a garment support consisting of a body portion inclining downwardly from the center toward its end and further pro- Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the 7 Washington, D. 0.
vided at its center with a loop, a pair of outwardly inclined and downwardly projecting inverted U-shaped members, each of said members having its outer in one terminus of said body portion, said outer leg being of greater length than the inner leg of the member, a curved arm integral with the inner leg of each of said members and an extension projecting from said curved arm and adapted to be connected to a stretcher.
3. A device of the class described comprising a pair of trouser leg stretchers consisting of a pair of resiliently connected inverted U-shape members, a sleeve secured to the upper end of each of said members and constituting a coupling member, and a garment support including a pair of extensions engaging in said coupling member whereby said support is connected to said pair of stretchers.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
