Description

J. H. BRACKIN.
RETAINER FOR ARTICLES 0F RUBBER FOOTWEAR. APPLICATION EILED JUNE 10, 1915.-
]Patented Apr. 25, 1916.
gnvemfop J. H. BREW/KIN @51 M SAM fd llhh lfd AW FQQ JOHN HARVEY BRACKIN,
OF NEWARK, DELAWARE.
RETAINER FOR ARTICLES OF RUBBER FOOTWEAR.
Application filed .Tune 10, 1915.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, JOHN HARVEY BRACKIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newark, in the county of New Castle and State of Delaware, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Retainers for Articles of Rubber Footwear, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to an attachment for rubbers and like articles of footwear whereby they can be prevented from pulling off from the heels of the shoes, the object of the invention being to provide a device of this character which will operate in an effective manner to retain the rubbers securely in position upon the shoes.
Further objects of the invention are to provide an attachment for rubbers and overshoes which is comparatively simple and inexpensive in its construction, which will not interfere with the use of the rubber or overshoe in the usual manner, and which will add materially to the comfort of the wearer forthe reason that it will counteract any tendency of the rubber to pull off from the shoe after it becomes stretched or if it is a trifle too large for the shoe.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel combina tions and arrangements of the parts as will more fully appear as the description proceeds, the novel features thereof being pointed out in the appended claims.
For a full understanding of the invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of an attachment for rubber footwear and the like constructed in accordance with the invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of a rubber showing the attachment as applied thereto.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.
Specifically describing the present embodiment of the invention, the reference character A designates a rubber which may be of conventional construction, being Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 33,272.
formed with a body portion 1, a sole 2, and a heel A strip 4 of rubberized material 1s applied to the back of the rubber A, being preferably formed with a flat hook member 10 adapted to fit over the upper edge thereof. A thin narrow strap 11 which is preferably formed of elastic material has the ends thereof connected to the bottom of the strip P at opposite sides thereof, said elastic strapll being adapted to be brought into engagement with the front of the heel 3 and the bottom of the rubber in such a manner as to coiiperate with the hook member 10 to hold the strip a in position. The
top of the strip 4t may be provided at opposite ends thereof with the upwardly and forwardly inclined ears 5, one of the ears terminating in a strap member 6 adapted to extend across the instep of the shoe, while the opposite ear is provided with a buckle '7 adapted to engage the end of the strap 6*. This form of the invention can be purchased separately and applied to the rubbers already in use.
The strap extending across the instep of the shoe will act in an effective manner to prevent the rubber from pulling away from the heel portion of the shoe, even when walking through a sticky deposit of mud. The annoyance of having the rubbers pull off from the shoes is thus entirely eliminated Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. An attachment for rubbers and overshoes, including a strip adapted to be applied to the back of a rubber, a hook at the upper edge of the strip for detachably engaging the upper edge of the rubber, an elastic strap connected to the ends of the strip and arranged to extend downwardly around the front of the heel, and retaining strap members carried by the strip and adapted to be secured across the instep.
2. An attachment for rubbers and overshoes, including a strip adapted to be applied to the back of a rubber, a hook upon the strip for engaging the upper edge of the rubber, an elastic strap connected to the strip and arranged to extend downwardly around the heel of the rubber, ears project- In testimony whereof I aflix my signature ing from the strlp at the top thereof, a in presence of two Witnesses. strap at the end of one of the ears, and a M M M buckle applied to the extrelnlty of the op- JOHN L1 BLAGIXUN' posite ear, the strap bein adapted to be \Vitnesses: drawn across the instep an engaged by the J. CARLTON KERsnY, buckle.
