Description

UNITED STATES oFrIcE.
THOMAS RICH, OF SOUTH SEEKONK, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN susPENDERs.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 118,055, dated August 15, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS RICH, of South Seekonk, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in Suspenders, of which the following is a specication:
The nature of my invention consists in the combination of a transverse spring With the ordinary straps ot' a suspender, the straps leading overV the shoulders bein g attached at or near the center of such spring.
In the drawing, A A are the straps leading over the shoulders, being attached to the middle ofthe springB by means of the rin g a, which is soldered or otherwise fastened to the spring. The button-straps O G are attached to the ends ofthe spring B by means of the rings I) b, which may be soldered or otherwise fastened to the ends of the spring.
-tially as described.
I prefer to make the spring of metal by taking hoop-skirt wire and arranging the same in leaves after the manner of the ordinary elliptic spring 5 but it may be made of Whalebone or other suitable material, it' desired. The use of this spring gives any amount of elasticity required, so that the buttons cannot be torn from the pantaloons, as is liable to be the ease in Suspenders with less yielding capacity.
I claim as my invention- The combination of the button-straps O C, the connecting-spring B, with the shoulder-straps A A drawing from the center ofthe spring, substan- THoMAs RICH.
