CLEANING AND POLISHING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 25, 1991.06..
Application led June 9, 1915. Serial No. 33,122.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, DAVID LEVY, a subject of the Czar of Russia, residing at New York, New York county, and State of New York, have invented and discovered certain new and useful Improvements in Cleaning and Polishing Devices, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to devices for cleaning and polishing shoes and consists in the combinations and arrangements of elements, hereinafter described and particularly set forth in the accompanying claims.
The invention has for its purpose to provide an article of this character wherein a reservoir of polishing liquid, and the appurtenances necessary to its proper application, will constitute a complete and self-contained article that may be conveniently carried and readily handled in use.
A further purpose of the invention is to construct the body of the device from a bristle and a smooth fabric to provide cleaning and polishing surfaces, and uniting said fabrics to form selvaged edges adapted for reaching the crevices or otherwise inaccessible parts of the shoe.
The invention is shown by way of illustration in the accompanying drawings, .wherein- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the article complete. Fig. 2 a central sectional view of the same, and Fig. 3 a transverse sectional view thereof.
Referring to the construction in detail, and wherein like reference characters indicate corresponding parts in the dierent figures, the article comprises a body formed `from a fabric 1 having bristles 2, and a fabric 3 having a comparatively smooth surface ll, and said surfaces 2 and 4 serve for cleaning and polishing. The fabrics 1 and 3 are united to form selvaged edges 5 along each side of the body, and the bristles 6 thereof provide a substantial brush for reaching into the crevice between the shoe sole and upper, or other inaccessible places.
A reservoir, comprising a tube 7 of metal, is located within the body and contains a liquid polish, or cleaning Huid, 8 that is adapted to be applied by means of an ordinary dauber 9 mounted on the end of a wire 10. The wire 10 has fastened thereon a cap 11 carrying a cork 12 that serves as a stopper for the open neck 13 of the tube 7 as shown in Fig. 2, and in which relation the article has the appearance of a bottle.
A pliable packing or filling 14: is contained within the space between the tube 7 and the body, and will readily give or conform to the hand when the article is put to actual use. And it will therefore be seen that a complete and self-contained device is provided for cleaning and polishing shoes, and one which may be readily carried about and conveniently handled.
The metal tube 7 has substantially the same length as the fabric portions 1 and 3 and serves as a base or support for the pliable portions of the bottle body to hold the same rigid and in form for use, and in this respect said tube has two functions, to wit: a container for the polishing liquid and the rigid or frame element of the article.
It is obvious that those skilled in the art may vary the details of construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention, and therefore I do not wish to be limited to such features except as may be required by the claims.
Having thus fully described my said invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. An article of the character described comprising a fabric body providing a sur* face for polishing and having a selvaged edge for cleaning, a tube providing a reservoir for containing polish located in said body, and a pliable filling between said tube and the body, said reservoir giving rigidity to the filling and body, substantially as set forth.
2. An article of the character described comprising a body constructed from bristle and smooth fabric members forming clean ing and polishing surfaces, a tube providing a reservoir for containing polish located in said body, and a pliable filling between said tube and the body, said reservoir giving rigidity to thevfilling and body, substantially as set forth.
3. An article of the character described comprising a body constructed from bristle and smooth fabric members having a selvaged uniting edge, said fabric members and the selvaged edge providing cleaning and polishing elements, a tube providing@ resermy hand and seal at New York, New York voir for containing polish locatedl` in'` said this lst day of June, A. D. nineteen hundred body, and a pliable filling between said tube andv 'fteen.
and the body, said reservoir giving rigidity DAVID LEVY. [1.. s l 5 to the filling and body7 substantially as set Witnesses:
forth.
F. S. ARAKI,
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set JAGK FUCHS.
