IMPROVEMENT IN BUTTONS OR STUDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 117,916, dated August 8, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHAnLEs A. NEWTON, of Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Sleeve-Buttons, and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description oi' the construction and operation of the saine, reference being had to the annexed'drawing making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.

This invention has relation to an improvement in buttons or studs; and consists in the hereinaiter-described construction and novel arrangement of devices whereby the head and back part oi' the button or stud may be separated and locked together for greater' convenience in their use.

The slotted part of the eye f clasps the shank when the head and back part of the button are locked together, and they may be separated by pressing the slide until the Wider part of the eye reaches the shank. K represents a plate which guides the slide F.
Vhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The button or stud herein described, consisting of the head C provided with a nail-slot in the rim and the spring H, slide F having the pearshaped slot j', and of the back A provided with the grooved stem B, combined, arranged, and operated substantially as specified.
