Be it known that I, MARSHALL S. YEA'W, a citizen of the United States, resident of Indianapolis, in the county of Marion and State of Indiana, have made a certain new and useful Invention in Bug-Traps; and I declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

The object of the invention is to provide a trap for bed-bugs, designed to attract these insects and kill them, and it consists in the novel construction and combinations of parts, as hereinafter set forth.A

In the accompanying drawings, the numeral 2 indicates a rectangular box, co-mprising van outer case 3, open at one side,

and an inner case or receptacle 1, open at the top, this inner case fitting neatly within the outer case and being capable of removal therefrom in the fashion of a drawer. These cases may be made of pasteboard, and the inner case lined with paraHin paper, as indicated at 5. The top of the outer case is flat. The inner case is designed to close the side opening of the outer case.

Near the top and through the side walls of the outer case are made small slits 6, usually punched inward from the outside, each slit being large enough to admit one of the insects readily. The slits are horizontal and usually in line with each other. The upper edges of the inner case 4 may be cut away or notched at 7 to provide passage into the inner` case through the slits or passages 6 of the outer case.

The top of the outer case is provided at its side edges with oppositely projecting pins 8, 8, which extend horizontally and parallel, or nea-1lly so. with the top of the case. These pins may be provided by means of transverse, double-pointed wire 8', se cured to the top of the box on the inside,

between duplicate layers 3 of said top and extending through the side walls at the edges of the top, said wire having a shoulder 82, midway thereof, formed by a bend in the wire and serving to prevent the'pin from slipping, or to hold it securely in place. rlhe ends of the wire are pointedv and project horizontally on the outside of the case a fraction of an inch, usually about a quarter of an inch. These projecting pins lie in the same or parallel directions, but pointed in opposite directions on the two sides of the box. They are hitching pins, whereby the box can be readily attached to the ticking on the underside of a mattress, in such wise as to hold the top of the box in close contact with the cloth. In this way the entrance slits of the box are brought close to the ticking and are made of easy access to the insects, should there be any on the mattress. Within the box is provided a preparation which is designed to attract these insects and kill them in a very short time. If one of these bugs is brought into a room wherein one of these trap boxes is placed, it will go to the trap and into it,

and will not trouble anyone in the room. Soon he will be dead and out of sight, and no one need know that there was a bug in the room, unless the trap be examined. This should be done from time to time, to remove the dead insects. When the trap is closed, the slits 6 provide the only openings for the passage of the bugs.

The box is provided, within the inner case, with the preparation referred to.

The box may, if desired, be attached to the top ticking of the mattress, in any convenient corner or place, in which case the part referred to as the top of the outer case becomes the bottom thereof, etc.
