Bel itknown thatl, Gir-AOE FORD GHoLsoN,
a citizenof the VUnited States, residing at Evanston, in the county of Cook andState of Illinois, have invented; newand useful Improvements Y in Soaping .Devices for. lVashboards, of whichthe followingi a specification.
This invention relatesto soapingdevice's for washboards, andithasl particular reference' to adevicefor supplying liquid soap to theclothes that are to be washed.
One object of the invention is to produce a container made of rubberrjor analogous material which may be conveniently connected, with V.the frames' of a washboard for the purpose of supplying liquid soap, said container being provided with discharge openings which are normally closed, the closing of said openings being due to the resilient action of the material of which the bag is constructed.
A further object of the invention is to produce a simple and improved construction whereby the container may' be conveniently connectedwith the frame of a washboard.
A further object 'of the invention is to produce a container of simple and improved construction for the purpose indicated.
With these and other ends in View which will readily appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consiste in the improved construction and novel arrangement and combination of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawing has been illustrated a simple and preferred form of the invention, it being, however, understood that no limitation is necessarily made to the precise structural4 details therein exhibited, but that changes, alterations and modifications within the scope of the claim may be resorted to when desired.
In the drawing, Figure 1 is a front view of a washboard to which the invention has been applied. Fig. 2 is a sectional detail view, enlarged, taken on the line 2 2 in Fig. l. Fig. 3 is a sectional detail view taken on the line 3 3 in Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a sectional detail view taken on the line 4 4 in Fig. l.
Corresponding parts in the several figures are denoted by like characters of ref- Specification of` Letters'y 'at'ent.

been applied comprises the stiles or side members 15 `which are spaced and connected,
by means ofcross bars16, 17. The side members are also. connectedjtogether atl their upper ends by means of a top or cap piece 18 whichA4 is' detachably connected with the sideV *membersl by suitable l'connecting means,
such ,asy bolts19 and wing nuts 20. rIhe rubbing face21 which ymay bemade of glass, corrugated zinc or other. material is framed between theside members 15 and the cross bars 16, 17.. The cross bar -17 and the cap piece 18v are providednin their opposed faces with groove's22, 23.as clearly seen in Figs. 2 and 4, andthe Stiles o-r side membersare provided in theiropp'osedfaces'with groovesy y24 .that-'extend between the cross bar 17 and the cap piece 18, said grooves Vbeing clearly indicated in Fig. 3. The cap piece 18 is also provided about midway between its ends with an aperture 25, as best seen in Fig. 2.
The bag or container C which is made of rubber or other suitable material, such as composition containing rubber, is of sub-` stantially rectangular shape 'and-.of a size which will enable it to lit in the space bounded by thecross bars 17 18 and the upper grooved portions of the side 4members 15. Said bag is provided with a filling tube y26 extending through the aperture 25 of the cap piece and'adapted to receive a cap or closure 27 preferably having threaded connection therewith. The sides of the bag or receptacle are provided with ribs 28 engaging the grooves 24 in the stiles or side members of the frame, the bottom porti^on of the bag has a rib 29 engaging the groove 22 in the cross bar 17, and the top portion of the bag is provided with arib 29 engaging the groove 23 in the cap piece 18. The bag or receptacle is additionally supported bymeans of a panel 30 which is assembled with the frame members of the washboard byV vengaging grooves 31 in said frame mem- In practice, the bag or receptacle may be readily assembled with the washboard by temporarily removing the cap piece 18, as well as'the cap or closure 27, thus enabling the bag to be positioned between the cross bar 17 andtheupper endsA of the side mem' bers 15, after which the cap piece 18 is restored to position, when the cap or closure 27 may be applied, the baghaving been rst filled with liquid soap. When clothes are being washed, the pressure of the hands exerted at each down stroke will slightly compress the bag or receptacle, causing a portion AAof its contents to be expelled through the slits 33, the walls of which will immediately close together when the'pressure is interrupted. By regulating the dev gree of pressure, the quantity of liquid soap supplied at each stroke may be gaged or regulated.
It will be seen from the foregoing description, taken in connection with the drawing, that I have produced a very simple and eiicient device whereby liquid soap may be supplied to garments that are being rubbed on a washboard, the said device bev ing inexpensive, easily applied and of such a nature that the quantity of soap supplied may be easily and accurately regulated.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is
A washboard comprising a. frame, a cross bar, secured to the upper end of said frame below its top, a corrugated member secured in said frame and to said cross bar, said cross bar being beveled transversely, a metallic soap container removably secured to said frame and resting on said cross-bar, a plurality of integral teats formed upon said container, and each Vhaving a slit communicating with said container, said cross bar forming a bridging surface inclining from said corrugated member toward said teats, said teats projecting forwardly of said cross bar, and a filler device on said container.
In testimony whereof I aiiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GRACE FORD GHOLSON.
