IMPROVEMENT |N CLOTHES-DRIERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 117,847, dated August 8, 1871.

A, Figs. l and 2, is a post of suitable height and set firmly in the ground. B is an arm or lever pivoted, a short distance from its upper end, to the upper end ofthe post A, and its lower end reaching one-half or two-thirds the way down the post. At a suitable distance below where the arm B is pivoted is a cross-bar, D, attached to the post A, having on each end a projection, d,
against which the lever B strikes when it is tilted. To the top of the lever B is pivoted a rack at its hub C. Secured to the lever B is a ratchet, e, and to the hub or one of the` arms of the rack is attached a pawl, f, against which a spring, h, bears, the object of which is to prevent the rack from turning too easily when a person is attaching clothes. Apin, g, inserted through a hole in the lever B and into the post when the lever is ina vertical position, serves to retain it in that position; and when the clothes are to be attached said pin is withdrawn and the rack is tilted over so as to bring the lower side Within convenient reach. The arms of the rack may be as many as will make it strong, and the cords may be galvanized wire, secured to the arms in the form of rings.
I claim as my invention- The combination of the lever B and ratchet e with the rack C, post A, and cross-bar D, when the same are constructed and arranged to operate as described.
