Application filed November 6, 1915.
To all whom 2'25 may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS J. LYNCH, a citizen of the United States, residing at \Yaterbury, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented new and useful Improvements in Reins and lVhip Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improved device for use by the driver of a vehicle to hold the reins and to also hold a whip, the object of the invention being to provide an improved rein and whip holder of this character which is cheap and simple in construction, is efficient in operation and which can be readily grasped and held in one hand.
The invention consists in the construction and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings :Figure 1 is a perspective view of a rein and whip holder constructed in accordance with'my invention and showing the reins and a whip attached thereto. Fig. 2 is a plan of the same. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional View of the same.
My improved rein and whip holder is in' angles thereto. The grip portion comprises bars 3, l, which are parallel and which are connected together at their outer ends by substantially semi-circular jaws 5 which are adapted to receive the butt of a whip between them, as indicated in Fig. 1, so that the butt of the whip will lie between the bars 3, 4, and jaws 5 and will form a grip for the device, the whip and bars 3, 4:, being conveniently and readily grasped by one hand.
The arm 2 is provided with a broadened head or frame 6 which is provided with cross bars 7, 8, 9, which are arranged in suitable spaced relation, the bars 7 and 9 being on one side of the frame or head and the bar 8 being on the other side thereof as shown. The reins which are passed longitudinally through the frame or head 6 are also passed Specification of Letters Patent.

through the spaces between the bars with which the said frame is provided and are bent to form bights which are engaged by the bars so that the reins are detachably and adjustably connected to the holder as indicated in Fig. 1.
The arm and the grip portion 1 are here shown as made from a single piece of wire. I do not desire to limit myself in this particular. While I have herein shown and described a preferred form of my invention, I
1. A combined rein and whip holder comprising a grip portion and an arm projecting from the grip portion and at an angle thereto, said grip portion being provided with a whip butt receiving portion and said arm being provided with a head to receive the reins and ith cross bars on said head spaced for the passage of the reins and to form bights in the reins for engagement by said bars.
2. A combined rein and whip holder comprising a grip portion having a pair of bars and jaws connecting said bars, said bars being spaced to receive the butt of a whip between them, and an arm extending forwardly from one of said bars at an angle to the grip portion, said arm being provided with a head for the reception of the reins and with cross bars on said head for engagement with bights of the reins.
3. A combined rein and whip holder comprising a grip portion having a pair of bars and jaws connecting said bars, said bars being spaced to receive the butt of a whip between them, and an arm. extending forwardly from one of said bars at an angle to the grip portion, said arm being provided with a head for the reception of the reins and with cross bars on said head for engage ment with bights of the reins, said grip portion and arm being formed from a single piece of wire.
4. A combined rein and Wi hip holder com- In testimony whereof I afiix my signature prising a grip portion provided with means in presence of two Witnesses. to detachably secure the butt of a Whip thereto, and an arm projecting from the THOMAS H 5 grip portion at an angle thereto and pro- Witnesses: V
